Major difference between whatever 8.5' camper you have, and a Lance 1030.

Lance 1030 is a 11' long camper. It would be almost half hanging out the back of the bed on a 6.5' bed camper.

Yes, ***SOME*** long bed campers will work in a short bed truck, but not all.

Who makes an HD truck with a 6' bed?

My understanding on many of the long bed units in an 8-9 footer is the tail lights are visible and on the short bed they aren't so they build the back wall square and put tail lights on. I have an 850SC Northstar made for a short bed. My shortbed is that Ford 7 footer. There is no other difference in an 8.5 long or short bed model. How can that affect performance? Lightening is a different issue. I can see where a 10 footer hanging 3 1/2 feet of the end would be tricky but not a shorter one.

That Lance 1030 is a heavy mother. I put a used one in my 2011 2500hd long bed and felt like it was out of my league. I have seen plenty of long bed campers in short bed trucks. You can do it, but it will not handle well. Many Northstar and Adventurers are designed for long and short beds. That 1030 is not. A short low speed trip maybe.
I prefer the look of a HD shortbed over the long, but the long bed is more useful IMO.

The 850sc TC is designed for shortbed trucks.

It depends if the camper model as recommended by the mfgr can be used on a short bed. Northstar have many models that can be used on an 8 or foot bed. Does Lance consider the 1030 valid for a short bed truck?

If they do not, then heed their design recommendations

If it is only for a few uses, can you put the camper on a trailer and get the short bed? I know it sorta' defeats the advantage of a TC, but it might be a way to eat the cake too.
