Long term EternaBond Roof Seal

Because I am a paranoid person, I am seriously considering applying EternaBond Roof Seal PLUS over the roof to side wall joint of our 2 year old Jayco. The "once of prevention ..."

The only negatives I have heard with EternaBond products has been when proper surface preparation, including primer, has not been done.

What is your long term experience with EternaBond products, especially on such critical joints/seams ?
  • I would not put that stuff on my roof on a two year old RV.
If you lived soemplace whee they get lots of sun then I would wait until it ages and then do it.
The roof on my last TT was 13 y/o, never leaked and had many years left in it.
Remember this is a commercial roofing matrial and is meant to last a long time with no maint. what so ever.
Also, I would never buy a nice, newer used RV with roof sealer on it. It tells me there was a problem that was patched.

It will depend on the amount of flex (panel distortion and misalignment caused by the flexing' how well the substrate was prepped and the the thickness of the Eternabond itself.

Still not an excuse for regular seam inspections. No sealant is a do it and forget it sealant, not even Eternabond. Good stuff however. I really line the Eternabond corner tape myself but that is another thread.

I've had Eternabond on my front and rear cap seals for about 9 years, it's holding up well.

Last year I applied Eternabond to the edges of my roof onto the drip rail. No problems so far.

Ditto and I applied a 2" wide strip along the entire roof edge and down onto the metal insert molding to just before the vinyl insert trim is a the same time and none of that has lifted. Same for everything on the top of the roof (i.e. no lifting of any edges) except a couple of small areas at the 4 corners where I have multiple layers of the roof seal built up to seal those corners and they have a lot of non level areas. none of these minor lifting areas effected the sealing and I simply trimmed off the lifted area just last month mostly for cosmetic purposes.

Only on the front roof to front edge seam this year am I starting to see some hairline cracking in the white covering on the Eternabond roof seal tape. Nothing major and since the sealing is actually done by the much thicker microsealant this is more of a cosmetic and UV first defense issue than a potential sealing problem at this time. This front gets the full brunt of the daily sun and the rest of the roof looks a good as it was done back in the spring of 2008.

  • I have Eternabond roof seal on my aluminum roof at all the roof joints and on the through-holes. I have Eternabond Webseal on the roof-to-wall-edge trim. Almost 6 years of continual exposure and it is still all in place.

  • No matter what you use or how you prep, because of unit flex when going down the road, no sealant is forever and to think it is, is false security.
  • Get the Etern-a-Clean spray can and properly prep the surface, you will create a lifetime seal. I did my roof seams years ago and no issues.
