This is just another example of a truck manufacturer who doesn't engineer and manufacture their engine and transmission.

I agree they should stick to reviewing cars not trucks.

These threads make me like our lowly lethargic 5.4L F250 more and more. A friend has a Nissan Titan with 5.6L V8. Really nice riding and sounding truck that tows within it's limits like a champ. If you really want a Cummins engine, get one wrapped in a HD Ram for a similar price.

And their marketing is horrible IMO. I don't go looking for it, but don't think I've seen a single tv commercial on it.
When they should be touting the "best" diesel, cummins, and best transmission, Aisin.

Not starting a brand war, just they got some big names under the hood and they need to name drop more.

^That would be the best move they could make, IMO. Offer a HD version of the XD to compete at the real 2500 truck level. Provided the chassis is up to the task, looks heavy duty from the one I looked at.
I'll still defend that Nissan is answering a request for a capable diesel pickup that isn't a big ole "HD" truck, but also agree that 15mpg avg (subjective since we know the test drivers aren't footing the fuel bill and sounds like it may have done a bunch of poking around town in traffic) and about double the avg def usage isn't putting it ahead in any categories vs the competition.
Some of the other subjective "issues" like clunky transmission could be because they expected it to shift like a bmw or something.

They got the right idea, but if the baby Cummins can't split the difference on fuel mileage between the Eco D and the big boy trucks, it looses a lot of luster.

And the marketing has been terrible for this truck! I'm not sure what Nissan has been doing?? I even subscribed to the Titan email list and they rarely send any new emails. I'd be marketing like crazy.

Another thing...I don't think Nissan has made any adjustments from my1 to my2....at least nothing they talk about.

Good share OP...I want to want a Nissan XD....but at the end of the day I would probably come home with some other brands truck.

Maybe they will put real HD axles under it and give it some more payload.
