I see the Nissan as being in no man's land. It is not as capable as a 3/4 ton but is cost just as much.
It is very capable for a 1/2 ton but it is priced to high for the 1/2 ton crowd.
Who is the truck being marketed to?
Have you checked the MSRP on a Ford F-150 Platinum or 1500 High Sierra lately? Your cost comment is irrelevant.
But those trucks all are about luxury and are top of the line. They are not for everyone either. Those trucks are for the 1/2 ton pick up buyer with unlimited funds Who want All THE BELLS AND WHISTLES. Another small niche market. I think Nissan wants the XD to be more than that.
The Nissan is not marketed that way.Is it a luxury truck designed to compete with Platinum and High Sierra ? Is it a heavy hauler? what is it? Who is the target buyer?
It's not luxurious enough for the luxury guy and not heavy enough to be a real hauler. Currently it is a dud in no man's land. - demilesExplorer

The truck has a good following in Canada and his problem is not the norm. The truck is rated to start at 0 degrees F and above with the glow plugs and Canadian trucks get a block heater install.

Wow, my 6.5 started the exact same way the other day @ 27 degrees. Checked the glow plugs and 7 of 8 were toast. That's crazy if the grid heater is ok on this thing and everything is working correctly.
I had high hopes for this truck but now I'm like :R.
It uses glow plugs, not a grid heater. The more I read about this truck the less I like it. Glow plugs inherently don't work as well as the grid heater setup in the I6 - another factor favoring the bigger Cummins in this comparison.
I didn't know that. I thought since it was a Cummins...........Thanks Id! - IdaDExplorer

The comment about the 6 speed is not specific to the titan. Unfortunately, due to government fuel economy standards, most modern transmissions in trucks behave this way. My 15 Silverado i just traded in was that way and my 17 Ram i just purchased is similar, but not as bad as the Silverado was. A friend at workb told me his F150 acts similarly.
Thanks Uncle Sam! Lol. Unfortunately they are what they are.
If you are referring to CAFE requirements for the manufacturers to meet, they are not applicable to vehicles with a GVWR over 8500lbs. The Titan is over that GVWR. - LantleyNomadI see the Nissan as being in no man's land. It is not as capable as a 3/4 ton but is cost just as much.

Review 2 - BedlamModeratorMy truck rarely is driven empty and I see 2 percent DEF usage compared to diesel consumption. It does vary - I see more usage if doing a lot of mountain driving where the engine is worked harder verses plains.
