Are you looking at only new? Or are you considering used?
Someone mentioned AWD, so if you need that and are looking for it how about a 1/2 ton Express or Savana with AWD?
Performance wise, with the 5.3L it should be similar, if not better than your Safari. Tow capacity would be about the same or slightly better as well (I think 6500# for the regular 1/2 ton).
The bench seats can be pulled out just like your van. When we downsized from our 1 ton Epressto the Yukon XL last fall I was shopping around for one. The problem was that anything in the price range I wanted were only custom vans with higher miles. Nothing wrong with the custom van, other than they were 7 passenger and we really wanted 8 passenger.
Jeremiah, glad to hear you get as good of gas mileage as you do with your van. I had two different T/C as rental vehicles earlier this year and neither of them did better than 22.5 mpg on the highway. I did like the way they rode, handled and got up and moved. But was really dissappointed in that gas mileage. I put about 450 miles on the one and closer to 1000 on the other.
