Hey Troy, if you can call me "old " I can certainly call you kiddo according to Ric. :W All my 4 sons are older than you I believe, but we had them while still young 18-24. Heck my oldest grand kid is 21 now :B
Yes you got beat on the age category, but my wifes birthday was last week and I even told her she was old. The dog house didn't sleep too good that night. :E
Is Ric really that old? :B- OH48LtExplorerThe difference in price between a Colorado and a similarly equipped 1500 is roughly 10 grand. If you don't need the extra size, why pay for it? I friend of mine just bought the GMC version, loaded, and its a nice truck. He just needs a little bit of space to haul a few pieces of equipment for his crash reconstruction business, and doesn't haul hardly anything else. The smaller pickup is perfect for him, and a lot of people have similar needs.
There is a market for the medium-size pickups, but the diesel option is a loser from the get-go. Pay $4K for an anemic diesel, fuel mileage is only marginally better at most, and you pay more for fuel and maintenance. On the back end, you won't get more for it at trade-in time, they won't sell. Let's revisit this thread in 5 years, and see whats happened since then. Bet there won't be a diesel option for medium size pickups in the USA market. - 45RicochetExplorerHey Troy, if you can call me "old " I can certainly call you kiddo according to Ric. :W All my 4 sons are older than you I believe, but we had them while still young 18-24. At least you didn't mention the "brand" this time Troy. Baby steps are a start kiddo :B
Not sure at my age I qualify as "kiddo". Add on the responsibility of being a manufacturing manager with ~300 production personnel, 2 production supervisors, and 5 manufacturing engineers. I deal with plenty of "kiddo's" at work. :)- IdaDExplorer

Based on capability alone what you're saying makes sense.
To me and for those in the know about trucks, gas or diesel Colorado, a truck of this size and costing prit near what a full size 1/2 ton, I'd go w/ the 1/2 tone. Pricing of the Colorado is insane. I fully understand too that a full size truck is too much for some and the mid size is just right. However, I cannot justify spending 30-40K on a mid size and for 5-10grand more, you have a full size w/ a lot more capability.
Fortunately, or unfortunately, depending on perspective, a large segment of the market doesn't put a high priority on "capability".
The best selling 1/2 ton models have MSRP's around $45k-$50k. Reasonably equipped, 3/4 - 1 ton, 4x4, Big 3 diesels have MSRP's around $50k.
There appears to be a large portion of the truck market that puts a much higher priority on leather seats, extra knobs, two-tone paint, chrome trim, and flashing dash lights . . . than they do on payload/tow capacity.
The average sold price on a 2015 F150 is $5000 higher than what I paid for the truck in my sig in June. $44,000, and most of them have P rated tires are rated to carry the same load as my wife's Honda Pilot. - jerem0621Explorer IIgoducks10 is correct.
I priced out a loaded Colorado Crew cab (2016) with leather and nearly every option minus sunroof and the IBC... It was 33k... Same price in a Silverado crew cab MAY get you cloth seats and carpet on the floor in a Silverado Crew Cab.
It's a fun truck to drive too...
Thanks!

I know someone that went out to buy a Colorado and came home with a 1500 crew cab for the same price with the same options.
This one came in right at $29k before taxes.
Very few options though, bigger engine, 4x4, tow package. Funny no mirror adjustment switch - otrfunExplorer II
