Newbie...what are typical annual maintenance costs?

Beyond maintenance which is pretty much covered you should also look at camping fees, any where from 20 to 65 dollars a night. The cost of gas towing it around, depending on what you pull average between 7 to 9 mpg. Plus the extra cost of driving a truck around vs a more economical car if it's your daily driver. Tires run about 90 a piece and you may have 4 of them that need to get replaced every 4 years or so. In the end it's all worth it.

Just small things basically. Just learn to do the winterizing /dewinterizing, repack the bearings yourself. Check the roof seams and seals, you will get familiar with it and you will know when to reseal. You'll save money, learn your rig, and most of all you will know everything has been done correctly. Don't overthink it.

There are some big variances on the responses $5 to $1000. It looks like it is somewhere realistically around $100-200 if no major repairs are needed.

Don, your age is showing. We were all punks at some point.

I perform preventative maintenance which runs about $50 per year (mostly wash & Wax, sealant and bearing lube every other year)

There seems to be a cycle to RV repairs. If new you will have some problems right off the bat that were mistakes during manufacturing. Then you'll have up to 10 years of no problems other than tire and battery replacement and Brakes (Tires $400 plus and batteries $60 to $100 or more .... Brakes up to $400 for 2 axles)

At 10 years of age things start to breakdown...refrigerator (up to $1200) Air Conditioner ($800) Springs $800...etc. One of these will occur every couple of years

Or you can have another 10 years trouble free.

It really depends on luck and good maintenance

Over the past 8 years, we have purchased 2 new batteries, one new axle, 4 new tires, one awning, and a new mattress. Little things like LED lights, and small upgrades are not a thought.

Mine is next to nothing

-A gallon and a half of Pink antifreeze (about $7.00)
-I wash and condition the roof once a year, (about $15 for roof preservative)
-I grease the wheel bearings myself with a grease gun, (a few dollars for grease)
- We winter in it, so I have to buy one tank of propane a year ($30)
- black tank chemicals (about $40) for six months

Other than that, any thing can happen, but most of it if you are handy, you can take care of yourself.

I wouldn't buy a used trailer. that is a whole different ball game

The only think I can think of is the cost of the water heater anode, a water filter for the incoming water, repacking the earnings at what ever interval you choose, tires to replace when you need to replace.....etc...Replacement of battery when it becomes less efficient....

Hardly anything on a yearly basis. Less than my vehicles. I may buy a tube of caulk to touch up some caulking. But other than that there's really not much money spent on maintenance on a yearly basis. Some will wash their roofs with a cleaning product, but that's relatively cheap.
The biggest expenses are going to be all the stuff you think you need for the trailer that you'll buy. I'm always fiddling around with something so I'm spending money on some project. Most aren't do or die projects. More like upgrades to make things easier or better.
You'll need tires every 4-5 years. Re-pack the bearings every two years for me. If you have someone do it then that would be $100-200.00. I do mine so it's just the cost of seals and grease. $20.00 or so.

On the other hand if you're the type of owner that takes their RV into the dealer every year for a checkup and winterizing then I'm not sure what the yearly costs would be since I've never done that. I know winterizing runs around $50-75.00 depending on dealer. It's good to adjust the brakes yearly too. ($$?) Not sure about the inspection costs. A call to any dealer would give you an estimate.
Best thing to do to save money is to learn how to maintain it on your own. Most of the maintenance besides re-packing wheel bearings is fairly simple and easy.
Usually all the instructions you need can be found by Googling it and finding a YouTube video. There are some really good instructional videos done by dealerships or RV suppliers that will help you.
