And just a coincidence that the stock of both companies, Nikola especially, took a big jump? And a company that doesn't even have a real product? Nikola I mean.
The announcement was not marketing hype. The announcement was a business transaction (strategic partnership) announcing that one business was buying service/product from another. Investors see this as positive, and react with purchasing stock.
Last week, GM and Honda announced they have signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding following extensive preliminary discussions toward establishing a North American automotive alliance.
Today, GM announced that the Ultium battery – the power source behind GM’s future EV portfolio - will feature an almost completely wireless battery management system, or wBMS.
I think I see a GMC Hummer soon!
Not marketing hype, riiiiiiiight. Wink wink, nudge nudge.
I'm old enough to remember when Tusk said there was going to be "1,000,000 Robo taxies" by the end of this year and Tesla stock went way up after this news. 1,000,000 Robo Taxies by the end of 2020. I haven's seen one let alone 1,000,000!
About time GM got with the times and start ripping people off! :B - fj12ryderExplorer III

Tesla stock down 21% today, down 34% this month. Competition is on the way, VW's first MEB platform cars are coming out in the new year and look like they could provide some real competition for the 3 and Y.
The looks of the ID3 is kinda cool. I’m not sure why they decided not to sell it on this side of the pond.
The ID4 and Audi Q4 e-tron SUV's and e-tron Sportback are due out next year in North America.. The MEB platform has high floor and low floor configurations which allow it to be used for sedans and SUV's.
I think the ID4 will find a market. Checks a lot of boxes for the medium sized SUV bunch including a towing capacity. Looking forward to seeing it.
As long as you aren't towing very far.
In Europe it’s important to have tow ratings as they don’t have pickups. Local camping, dump runs, picking up stuff at a furniture store or lumber yard. Many businesses have small trailers to loan or rent. There is actually no guarantee that the North American version will have the tow rating. A ton of European made cars have tow ratings in Europe but not here. And it works the other way as well. Even a model 3 is not rated here but has a 990 kg tow rating in Europe. Same car, even has the hardware, just no rating.

Yeah, I read that Nikola's stock took a big jump right after the announcement. So it could all just be a ploy for stock manipulation.
Yeah, up 48% in one day...... It is very beneficial for someone to create hype like this all over the media and forums like these.
Almost makes you wonder if people are doing it on purpose sometimes.
..........
The market is driven by speculators. Those seeking to make a profit, quick or long term, are fast to buy on any promising news and that drives the price up. And they are just as quick to bail on any hint of bad news and that drives the price down. And automated computer buy/sell programs compound the problem.
............. We are not saying anything bad about electric vehicles here so no need to get defensive. We are just saying it is click-bait or stock "buy-bait" due to the broad and general hype created by the marketing departments of these companies.
.....
I was certainly not getting defensive. I have no real interest one way or the other. But this topic typically brings out the "EV will never replace my ICE" naysayers. Surprisingly, it has not really happened this time.
Then you are reading what we were saying wrong because that is not what we were saying so no need to get defensive. This topic also brings out the people that say "EV's will replace all ICE in just several years" and anyone person who thinks logically and disagrees with them they call naysayers.
On the topic of being called a naysayer......I think you guys are not listening to what we are saying or injecting your own thoughts into what we are saying. We are not saying that EV's aren't growing or will not eventually take over ICE vehicles, we are just saying that it will take much longer than several years and there are a lot of hurdles that still need solved before EV's take majority or even a quarter of the market share. It would be foolish with the adoption of any new tech to not think about these kind of things. As they say in psychiatry, you can't solve a problem until you acknowledge them. - BB_TXNomad
