People are expecting a significant MPG advantage over something like the EB. That is why there is some excitement over this.
Why? The Ecodiesel does about the same as the EB 2.7 according to the EPA.
You always go back to the additional maintenance costs (which never seem to pan out) and the engine premium (which almost always comes back at time of resale) as reasons not to buy a diesel.
Really? Cause Ram guys are saying $80 DIY oil changes on the Ecodiesel.
From www.ram1500diesel.com :

EcoDiesel Oil Change Price Shock
The dealer does oil changes on my Ecoboosts for $40 every 7.5-10k. I can DIY with Pennzoil Platinum (one of the best oils out there) for a hair over $40.
Around here (PA) 6 months of the year Diesel is more expensive than premium so fuel costs is about a wash. Right now its between mid grade and premium.
I will give you a tip. There are trucks out there that DO NOT wear the blue oval that are good trucks. This may prove to be one of them.
Yeah. GM, Toyota and Nissan also make fine trucks. The only one that really makes substandard vehicles is Chrysler/Ram.
This truck looks like a neat vehicle. The MT article really makes it seem like Nissan has a good truck here. Seems to be in line with he other "heavy" 1/2 tons.
