- IdaDExplorerThe conditions were poor but even so I'd have expected a bit better. I'll be interested in how the real world numbers shake out as the production units start hitting the roads. From a fundamental standpoint that engine has some issues that would dissuade me from personally wanting one - I don't like the timing chains or the CP4 injection pump.
- ChooChooMan74ExplorerI am glad that I went with the Ram 1500 over the Titan for now. I did want a little more payload, but I will sacrifice for getting nearly 30MPG at fuel economy speed, and about 25MPG at 75. Heck, I get about 14 towing at 60.
- AlmostAnOldGuyExplorerPersonally if I wanted to go deisel I would take the Ram 2500 with the coil springs over this truck any day. Nice ride and more capable payload. Given the modest payload I have trouble seeing what you could possibly tow with this truck that would warrant over 500 ft lbs of torque. The 420 ft lbs of torque on my truck hauls my 8k trailer really well.
And Happy New Year to you all.
Stu - kw_00ExplorerI would pass on this truck personally, I just have no like for that truck. I think it's great that the diesel market is increasing into the 1/2 ton and mid sized trucks. I would expect more out of all the hype on this truck. Maybe the model that hits the streets will be better. I like the idea the GM is putting the 2.8 duramax in the mid sized trucks. That should be a winner. I hope to see Toyota and Ford jump in on the 1/2 ton diesels. Time will tell, they just need a good payload and it should fit the bill for a decent percentage of weekend warriors.
- silverfzExplorerI am excited for this. As some one who grew up on smaller turbo diesels I always like smaller turbos vs gas. I will get a 1/2 tonne diesel with a payload of 1800lbs. That will cover most travel trailers and family hauler.
I do not need the rough ride and size of a bigger work truck.
So I am excited to see what I will replace my tundra in a few years.
As my other daily commuter is a cheap motorcycle worth 2k ,does 0-60 in less than 3 seconds and has a weight to power ratio better than a NASCAR while putting out 50mpg . I will balance thr mpg out. - brulazExplorerYes, it's a disappointment.
Low payload (too heavy) and un-exceptional mileage.
But the mileage numbers for HD trucks are pretty much all anecdotal.
CleanMPG has an interesting graph at post #10 here:
CleanMPG thread
These are sort-of steady-state cruising mpg's at highway speeds.
But it was a lot colder when he did the TitanXD so that has to be factored in somehow.
He also has an interesting discussion as to why he thinks the mileage is so poor. And in a later post compares US pricing with other trucks. - jus2shyExplorerHuh, just drove from stump town to the coast and back. Hills/mountains, speeds between 45 and 70 mph. 22 mpg, with my EVIC being typically 1% to 3% off. So still over 20 mpg.
That's kinda of a disappointment in the MPG category for the Titan, however they did note that it's still a pre-production unit. I also wonder what rear end since it looked like they were close to 2,000 rpm at 70 mph. Could be the camera angle though.
But then it's easier to understand why RAM did the Ecodiesel engine since MPG was their priority. I wonder what the design priority is for the diesel F-150 that was recently captured Pickuptrucks.com - PowerdudeExplorerWell, 17 mpg at 70 mph average for 100 miles using winter mix diesel (presumably, since it was 20 F outside), is not bad, but not great either, considering it was running empty.
I was expecting a lot more from the new Titan with the 5.0 Cummins, actually.
Still, they had a very limited sample size, and it was winter. Usually that drops you at least 1 mpg right there.
