Northstar campers

I always said if someone made a large nonslide camper I might be interested. I see a 12fter on Northstars site that looked pretty good until it showed a 4.5 gal cassette toilet that I know nothing about. What is a cassette toilet why not a blackwater tank there is a good size gray tank already there.

Count me as another Northstar owner who is happy to have a cassette toilet. The cassette toilet is built in and looks and feels just like any other toilet. It flushes really well with virtually no water. As others have mentioned it is easy to empty and can be emptied in an outhouse, flush toilet or at a dump station.

In my opinion Northstar makes pretty decent campers with good designs and quality construction. On a scale of 0 to 10, I would give most builders a score of about 3 or 4. Northstar gets an 8 for quality.

I agree with the quality assessment. Family owned and run business, and they pride themselves on using good grade material. The plywood on my bed frame and under the bed is knot free, not a cheap inferior piece. And they are built to be used off the truck also. I don't have a toilet or inside shower in mine, but I would definitely opt for the cassette toilet if I did.
  • Cassette toilet campers, since it is an entirely separate plumbing system, allows one to have the ability to camp in the winter and still use a BM fixture butt not need the full plumbing to to be de-winterized. One can use RV antifreeze or windshield washer fluid as the flushing fluid instead of water.

For TC's and the way I use mine, I would not want a fresh water toilet.

  • Having a 5th wheel with a black tank and a Northstar with a cassette I am a huge fan of the cassette. We have dumped it in porta potties at construction sites, McDonalds, coffee shop toilets, any where there is a toilet or in a dump station. We can go a week or more without dumping, there is no odor, no slinky, just a clean cassette that is inocuous and efficient.
  • There kinda like a built in Porta-Potti..I like them..I use a ours in the winter when I blow out my water lines, and just use water containers and a porta-potti.

Easy to dump and no worry on freezing the holding tanks.Dumping the black tank can be a pain sometimes.
  • Actually much preferred by some the cassette has its own five gallon water supply that flushes into its own 4 gallon holding tank which can be slid out separately and dumped in any commode, etc. Allows use of sites without dump stations. Many small truck campers have extremely small holding tanks requiring frequent dumping. This way it is possible to just take the tank out and walk to a restroom in a rest stop for example to empty. Again it just depends on what you are looking for.
  • That's an interesting choice for them indeed.

A cassette is a removable tank you can wheel somewhere and dump instead of having to find a traditional RV dump.
