Question about Alaska and storm windows

Should be no need for them in the summer.

I find them very usefull on cool / cold nights. I was in Alaska from May to August and we had quite a few cool nights. The good side is there is no fog on the windows when you heat up the camper, especially while cooking food, and it will be easier to warm up the TC.

Our Tc does not have the windows that you are asking about, what we used was (reflex) insulation, cut it to just slightly larger than the inside of the window. Then when needed we just pushed them in place for insulation or to block the light that happens longer into the night or early morning. When not needed we just slid them under the matress for storage. With the curtin pulled @ the foot of the bed and the Reflex in place it was like being in a cave.

When are you heading to AK for "summer" and where do you plan on going? Different parts of AK vary widely in temperature and weather patterns year round. Up here in Fairbanks in July it might be sunny and 80* during the day and 60* at night where on the same day in Kasilof it might be 55*, windy & rainy during the day and 45* at night.
Either way I wouldn't bother with storm windows if you don't already have them, and I've camped down to -30*F ambient without them.

Hi soos , if you do plan to use storm windows, i do not think they make one for the emergency push out window . It would defeat the purpose and the handles are in the way .

I made my own using solid foam insulation with a cut-out and clear heat shrink, its held in place by pressure, so it just pops off in case of emergency.
Been using it for a few years now, it works very well and its inexpensive and easy to make.

I also live in Alaska. I have storm windows for my camper and have not seen a need for them in the summer months. Yes, they will help keep it warmer and prevent condensation, but they also block the windows from being opened for ventilation. The sun is out for 20 hours a day in the summer up here, it feels much warmer than the thermometer reads....seriously. Save your money for fresh fish when you get here!

Don't know if we are talking about the same windows? Mine are double pane windows, they do open and close.
An easy fix for windows to make them air tihgt is to use plastic film from an Hardware store. Some are using plexiglass that they cut to fit inside the windows.
Of course, storm window are not a necessity to camp in Alaska in the summer and for the price, it would not be worth it.
For me, I would not live anymore without the double pane windows. I do camp bellow and over freezing point and they are a big plus for condensation.

They definitely do make emergency push out windows in double pane, as that is what we have purchased for our flatbed camper build. Perhaps you guys are referring to something more than double pane insulated windows though?

I have been to Alaska in the summer and see no need for them.

Yes, they make them in double pane , good choice .
I was thinking the OP was asking 'storm windows' the ones that use clips to hold a second pane in place. I have never seen that type in a single pane emergency push out window.
'Soos' was asking about storm windows, I assumed they didn't have dual pane.
I have single pane and had to do a fabrication .
