- myredracerExplorer IIUnless you want to save a pretty small amount of propane, just leave it on like most/all of everyone else. I can't see any reason why you couldn't add a little rigid foam around the heater if you have enough room. Been thinking of doing that myself and just saved a lot of larges pieces of it from packing inside a box.
Noise? Worst noise is being next to someone with a loud AC unit that runs continuous day/night in warm or cold weather... WHs are usually pretty quiet and I can only hear them when they ignite and make that puff/pop noise. - Old-BiscuitExplorer IIII tun mine ON when setting up and OFF when breaking camp.....be it for 1 day or a week.
I like HOT water when I want it ....not 20 minutes later while I wait for it to heat up
From safety point......don't turn it or fridge off when sleeping or when leaving RV.
They have safety features built in. - GordonThreeExplorer

I hadn't heard that one before, that the water heater is too noisy. I guess mine is maybe a little louder compared to the noise my fridge makes on propane,
Maybe all three?! - 2oldmanExplorer II

It doesn't take very long to get it up to temp and the dogs don't like the sound of the water heater kicking on in the middle of the night.

- SoundGuyExplorerI'd don't worry about it much but if we're leaving for the day and I happen to think about it I do turn the water heater off, whether it's running on gas, electric, or both. I suppose some might consider it a potential safety issue but really it's as much as "because I can". I also usually turn it off overnight when we don't have any need for hot water, but again only if I remember. What I do try to remember is to make sure it's been on for awhile by the time my wife wants to shower ... cause if I don't I sure will hear about it! :o
- 2oldmanExplorer IIIf you have close neighbors, please turn off your gas WH at night. They're very loud. Take your shower at night before bed. That way you don't go to bed with the day's dirt on you, you'll sleep better, and your sheets will stay clean longer.
- jerryjay11ExplorerAt night the noise of the WH can disturb other campers, particularly if your neighbors are tenting or in a pop-up. Switching it over to electric would maintain HW, but we usually turn it off completely at night because it doesn't take very long to heat up again. It usually is pretty warn still in the morning anyway. Of course I wouldn't turn my LP furnace off in cold weather so 6 of 1 and 1/2 dozen the other.
- the_bear_IIExplorerTurned on all the time when we only had a propane WH.
Now we have a WH that is electric or propane so when we have electric we use it on electric. It stays on all the time as well.
