Question for the Hensley/ProPride people

Hello everyone.

I'm looking for comments, good and bad, from the people that own or have owned one of the mentioned hitches. We currently have a 29' Thor that weighs in at about 8500lbs pulling it with a 99 Ram 2500 V10. We are using a EAZ Lift hitch with dual sway control bars that came with the trailer and it does ok. Still feel trucks and wind gust but after pushing a big rig for a bunch of years it's no big deal. But the problem is, with my health conditions my DW might have to start doing most of the driving so would like something more stable.

I don't want to be rude but please, I'm asking about the 2 hitches I listed. I know there are better hitches than I have without going to the Hensley or ProPride but that's not what I'm interested in. I'm looking for real world experiences and thoughts from people that have used them.

Thanks
Keith

  • Thanks everyone for the replies.
Kind of what I expected, no real negatives except for price. But that was what I really wanted to know. I've sent an email to Sean with a few questions hoping to hear from him soon. I don't want to start a war but, is there a reason other than price you went with the one over the other?

    Thanks again.

  • Our last TT was a 32' Komfort towed behind a '99 F250 V10 Ext Cab, SRW, short bed pickup. The TT would fishtail terribly and reacted to every truck or side wind. White knuckle drive was to say the least. We watched a video on the Hensley and with the money back guarantee, we went for it. DH installed it and even made a special hitch to be used when we had to leave the TT at the dealers and not remove the hitch completely. We purchased the special helper's kit so that we could hitch up easier. As others have said, hitching takes practice, you have to pretty much be dead on, but the hitch helper helped a lot. As for was it worth it? YES, ABSOLUTELY YES. No more sway, no more white knuckle, no more being pushed around by passing trucks or side winds. We loved the product so much that when we went to a fifth wheel, we traded in the Hensley Arrow for the Hensley TrailerSaver BD3. Again, another expensive hitch worth every penny.
  • I am very pleased with my propride , towing a 9000 lb 30 ft trailer with a v10 excursion , last trip had wind gusts 40 mph , it moved me around , but I didnt wiggle at all . Hooking up hasnt been a problem , its faster than my old equalizer . Sean at propride went the extra mile for me .

When you talk about a learning curve are you talking about hitching and unhitching, the way it tows or both?

I know I've never heard anything negative about them other than price.

Hitching and unhitching takes a little getting used to, but it is no big deal. You'll figure it out pretty quickly.

As for towing - there is no learning curve. I can't say you won't know the trailer is back there, but it's close.

You also get a tighter turn radius when backing. I forget the degrees, but you can darn near jackknife it before hitting your truck.
  • They are expensive and difficult to align (hitching). Otherwise they are great. The ProPride is easier to hitch up, but IMO the owner (Sean) is not very helpful.
  • Nothing but good things to say about my Hensley. I've used it with 3 different trailers and 2 trucks. Always stable and no sway. You will still feel large passing trucks, there's no way to rid that completely, even big rigs can get blown around by that. The difference is that the truck and trailer will move in a line as one.

  • I've got the Hensley and have not had a problem with truck, one side or both sides, passing me even with side winds. I need to be save and don't travel with high cross winds but have not had ANY sway problems with 36', 9,000# load even in a panic stop.

You will be pleased. Take the learning curve without panic and it will work well. Just be patient until you learn the system. An electric drill will work for the WD adjustments.
  • I bought my Hensley about 9 years ago when I had an F-150 and didn't like the white knuckles with a standard WDH. Got the Hensley and what a difference! It was worth every penny and then some.

Now, I have an F-350 and probably don't need the Hensley, but I still use it because it sure can't hurt. It's just as easy for me hitch as a standard hitch, but there is a learning curve.
