The 2500 will give you the most stability towing. The five link rear suspension preforms better than leaf suspension. The lateral movement is greatly reduced. The question on diesel vs. gas engine is less important. The heavier engine might provide a slight increase in stability at the cost of payload. The greatest benefit is the coil spring suspension.

Sorry, but have to disagree. The arguabley most important is gas vs. diesel. All I know is- from experience- I don't want to be one of "those guys" pulling a big rig out west up and down those grades at 30mph.
I thought that way too until I bought my latest truck.
Let me ask you this, which truck would get a 14000# 5er to 60 mph faster from a dead stop?
2014 Ram 2500 with the 6.4L Hemi and 4.10 gears or
2014 Ram 3500 SRW with the 6.7L Cummins and 3.42 gears?
Both identical other than mentioned (crew cab, 4x4, 6 speed auto, options, etc).
Depends on what altitude you're at. Sea level probably the Hemi. Get in the mountains with some elevation and the Turbo Diesel will walk away easily. I have nothing against the Gas engines, and my next truck may well be the 6.4 for the reasons you've given. I've had many but once you get up in elevation theres no comparison.
