Ram break-in period before towing?

I am sure there is a recommended interval before towing, why dont you ask the dealer?????

When we bought our 14 Ram, I hooked up the 5ver and went on a 300 mile one way trip and back. It had just under 300 miles on it. But, it had a 16' enclosed trailer, with a 6,000 pound load in it, hooked to it at 60 miles for most of the first 300. The machines are made to work, if you don't work them, they get cranky and start having issues. Like said above, load it, get in,and drive it!

:) Hi, my F-150 says to go 1,000 miles to break in the differential before towing. That's it.

ENGINE BREAK-IN RECOMMENDATIONS
A long break-in period is not required for the engine and drivetrain (transmission and axle) in your vehicle.
Drive moderately during the first 300 miles (500 km).
After the initial 60 miles (100 km), speeds up to 50 or 55 mph (80 or 90 km/h) are desirable.
While cruising, brief full-throttle acceleration within the limits of local traffic laws contributes to a good break-in.
Wide-open throttle acceleration in low gear can be detrimental and should be avoided.

DIESEL ENGINE BREAK-IN RECOMMENDATIONS
The Cummins®turbocharged diesel engine does not require a break-in period due to its construction.
Normal operation is allowed, providing the following recommendations are followed:
• Warm up the engine before placing it under load.
• Do not operate the engine at idle for prolonged periods.
• Use the appropriate transmission gear to prevent engine lugging.
• Observe vehicle oil pressure and temperature indicators.
• Check the coolant and oil levels frequently.
• Vary throttle position at highway speeds when carrying or towing significant weight.
NOTE:
Light duty operation such as light trailer towing or no load operation will extend the time before the engine is at full efficiency.
Reduced fuel economy and power may be seen at this time.
Because of the construction of the Cummins®turbocharged diesel engine, engine run-in is enhanced by loaded operating conditions which allow the engine parts to achieve final finish and fit during the first 6,000 miles (10 000 km).

Run the hell out of it! No tow for 500 miles for the gear sets to mesh.

Service manager at dealership where I got mine last fall said:

no towing for 500 miles

don't use cruise control for 500 miles. He said just the variable RPM's developed by use of the foot are good for breaking in a motor.

The diff will get a better bed-in between the teeth of the differential gears with a light load than a heavy one. While the difference may never be known, it may also cause the diff to be more quiet over the life of the vehicle if it's broken in under ideal circumstances.
Either way you break it in, it will last a long time.

I guess I am "old school" but after 42 years of being an 18 wheeler driver & 30 of those years being an "owner operator", which means I owned the truck & all the cost of repairs was on me...I always broke in a new engine or a new truck the way I was going to drive it...
