GoDucks, do you really change your oil at 3,000 top 4,000 miles?? I change at 10,000 and test, no issues oil still doing great at 10,000 miles.

Filters for my 2013 (frame mounted filter/water seperator and engine mounted filter) are about $110. My first reaction was that seems like a lot but piece of mind to me compared to water/debris if I get bad fuel. After spending this much on the truck it is peanuts to ensure reliability.

At 4,200 miles my dash is showing 53% life remaining so will likely crawl under and change around the 10-12k mark.

$20 isn't pricey but the $100 a stealer charges is.

Since they are a little pricey, I don't want to do it any more often than necessary.

I do mine at 15,000 and get the filter at Genos Garage. Price is very reasonable in my opinion (less then $20) and only takes ten minutes to change. The easy self priming system is almost effortless. Maybe the later models have a more expensive filter. Maybe the OP is getting the price quote from a Dodge dealer. Genos price for a '12 fuel filter is $47.

Seems like everybody agrees on 15,000 miles. All I can say is that pricey as they seem, they are much less pricey than needing a tow because the filter clogged up on you.

I'm guessing the OP is driving his first ever diesel. And yes, compared to the gas filters in cars and trucks, diesel fuel filters are both expensive and need replaced much more often.

See, the thing is, diesel fuel in North America is really crappy. At the same time, modern diesel fuel injection systems operate at such huge pressures with such small orifices that you can't tolerate particulates in there, lest the injectors clog up or wear out, and THOSE things are really expensive.

So, just between you and me, I'd change the fuel filter at the recommended interval, and carry a spare, just to be on the safe side. All it takes to ruin your day, is getting a load of bad fuel and needing a fresh fuel filter while out in the middle of nowhere.

I'll mention, having had the fuel filter clog up on me a couple times in the first 100,000 miles on my Jeep, even though I changed the filter at the recommended 24,000 miles, I've gone to changing it at 18,000 miles instead, just to prevent that sort of nonsense.

Running it to the point it starts to clog puts a huge strain on the pump and wil shorten its life and may leave you sitting. Change it at 15K or earlier as directed by Dodge.

Cummins says every 15,000 miles on my 2007 CTD. I think they know more than all of us on this site.

Run them until the Cummins shows a loss of power, you'll find you will probably trade the truck prior to needing a filter.
