Hybrid, from your past posts, I would be willing to bet good $$ that the likelihood of you buying a RAM is about the same as me buying a Ford. Who are you trying to fool?
I have owned 2 Dodges. Both were excellent, and durable trucks. During my last bi-annual truck purchase, Ram was the number 2 option.
Thanks for assuming though..... Clearly you are biased, and assume I am as well? - brulazExplorer

Like others are saying here, those two statements don't go well together. "cheap miles" and high speed towing? Doesn't compute.
For this retired, old fart who drives at 62mph to save $$$, the main problem with the EcoD is the truck's low payload, not the low HP. Although I will admit the EcoB's high HP is fun at times, I'd rather have the EcoD's mileage.
So like you, I'm waiting to see what the Nissan will be like. The Cummins 5L will have more than enough low end torque and HP, too much really, but if they don't put it in a heftier tow truck, it will be wasted on me. RAM should have kept it and put it in their 2500. - goducks10ExplorerIf Ram was worried about winning the towing wars with the new ED, surely they would've put a bigger motor in it. But they built it to satisfy the need for their café ratings. It's the media that keeps trying to make it something it's not.
- wilber1ExplorerThis is a 1/2 T after all and HP is just one factor in determining a tow rating. Tuners can turn any engine into a potential grenade but no doubt the ED has more to offer. Audi's 3L diesel is rated at an identical 240 HP in NA but there is a Euro version that cranks out 313 HP.

I'm far from an old fart, but I nearly died 6 months ago due to a sudden medical issue, so I clearly understand how short life is. At the same time, ST tires are rated to 65 mph max. - Fast_MoparExplorer

You beat me to it, Bionic. But, what do I know? I'm just a shill. - jerem0621Explorer IIHybridhunter, I am curious how fast you tow? When I had my Dually I traveled about 60 mph, mostly because that was my personal limit, I had a V10 and could have pulled at 90 mph if I wanted too. When I had my 5.4 F150 I towed at the same speed.
Regardless of the hp I have, 60-65 is my personal max and I am generally in the right lane letting people pass me.
The ED is a Niche motor, I understand that, it just so happens that I fit the niche, but that's why they make different vehicles so people can buy what meets their needs in particular.
Now, I'm not excluding the smaller EcoBoost because it may be a perfect match for us. That's part of the fun of shopping.
Consistent 20 plus MPG in mixed driving plus the ability to haul a 7000 lb TT safely is a tantalizing option.
Thanks!

- HybridhunterExplorerSo we should forsake all the advancements in performance and potential because philosophically some love Diesel engines? That makes a lot of sense.

^^^a little bit of sarcasm, but you get the point. Any basic truck will do what I ask, the ED won't. I'm all about cheap miles, so my next truck could be anything. Some on this site are delusional about the ED. I am considering the new cummins 5.0, the 2.7TT, even a Ram, but not the ED, the 3.6 is flat out a better deal, and I won't have to explain to my wife why it takes an hour longer to get places, or why I paid an extra $80 a month for the pleasure, and $160 oil changes and so on.... - jerem0621Explorer IIMan, you guys just have to out there pointing out that the EcoDiesel has as much if not more HP than the CTD and the 7.3 PSD did back in their day, the only issue is that the older trucks pulled twice as much weight.
Remember, people post on here all the time looking for these old 5.9 and 7.3 Diesels and are willing to pay a premium for them. I suppose they are fine with the acceleration into traffic.
I have no doubt the EcoDiesel will be a great match for a 7500 ish lb travel trailer. It should haul it great.
I bet the EcoDiesel will turn out great...now let's just hope the tuners can keep their hands off of it...yeah right. Lol
I bet you in 6 mo or so someone is going to post on here about how their EcoDiesel was gutless until they tuned it and now it's putting out 365 hp and 575 lb ft of tq or something like that...then a few months later we will hear about some tuning related failure and then how terrible Ram is for denying warranty work...after all they will have "restored the factory tune". Lol
Why will I buy my EcoDiesel new?.... Because I will get one before the tuner boy gets it!! Lol
Thanks!
Jeremiah
