repairing rood

I apologize if this topic has already been raised, but I have a 1999 Fleetwood Elkhorn and the roof has started to leak. The roof at the front is very spongy and few places along the side as well. Over the next couple months I have committed to repairing the roof as well as some other upgrades. My big question is I do not want to replace the rubber roof but was thinking of using the liquid EPDM rubber roof product and was wondering if anyone has experience with. Any advice would be great.

Thanks

  • Your miss-spelling of roof intrigued me , I thought that you owned a ROOD !Forty five years ago while sailing in the far southern Bahamas we were told to visit Long Island as It had the oldest ROOD in the new world . We had no idea what a ROOD was , so we sailed three days to see ! It was a suspended cross !

Have a look at the sticky thread "Truck Camper University" at the top of the page. Scroll down to "Camper Maintenance/ caulks, sealants-Roof replacements repairs" and "Camper structural repairs".

A new roof material sounds like the last (and maybe least) of the issues of your repair project. It sounds like you will need to repair parts of your roof structure first. And then you can put on a new skin, be it EPDM, aluminum, or something else.

I fully understand the job ahead repairing the structure but was just looking at the roof material. I thought aluminum but will need to find a source of supply and the cost as well. Thanks
  • I just did my rubber roof with this stuff.

Not cheap at HD, but I used it on my flat house roof a year ago and was pleased with the results, so just last week did my camper.
My camper 16 years old rubber roof did hold OK, but the years cost it few cuts and seems no caulk would stick to it and I tried at least 8 different, including marine stuff.
The Silicone coating looks great, giving it shiny, but soft finish.
It is partly self-leveling, so easy to apply on flat roof, but challenging on sloping surfaces.
MY front cap had some repairs on it and original labels washed out, so I am thinking about putting the coating on whole front cap as well.
Already did window rubber seal, who had some mildew stains that would not clean.

    How about aluminum instead?

Pretty much..I have never had a aluminum roof ever leak after applying Snow Roof over it..Can't say the same for the lights and windows..
