Replacing my dry rotted bag awning on my 14RT

Since I obviously don't have any monies to replace my dry rotting BAG Awning maybe i can just install some wide heavy duty VELCRO along the edge of my roof and attach the good awning fabric to this without the bag involved. All of the metal components of the awning is in great shape just no where to attach the awning fabric to the trailer roof.

might look something like this when installed

If that doesn't work out which I really don't see a problem on why not then I pick up one of those cheap Portable four pole awning covers to maybe sit right next to the POPUP. I could VELCRO to fabric flap to the roof of the POPUP real easy as well. I could also VELCRO strap to the two side poles to the side of the roof as well...

My awning bag is way to dry rotted at the sewn seams to withstand any transport. My bag would totally come off the side of the trailer with any wind resistance blowing over it. Right now I have it folded up laying on top of the trailer roof strapped down using stretch rope to holed it in place. No way that is going to work going down the at 50-60MPH...

I should have plenty of room on the side of the trailer to support the awning rolled up for transport. Can even mount some PVC square tubing along the trailer frame if necessary.

Yeal I know... Why don't you just get another BAG AWING... hehe...

I get into trouble just sitting and thinking...

  • When you buy it, you should get the thread. They have two weights, and you want the thicker one. I couldnt figure out if I needed the straight needle or the curved one, but ended up using the straight ones. You will probably go through a 4-6 if you stitched all 14 ft, so you might look around for someplace that also sells extra needed (REI does not seem to)

IFLOOM - What kind of thread did you use... Is there something special I should look for???

  • Yeah, if it is only the stitching that is rotting then the awl is for you. I put it on our picnic table and did a bit at a time.I got to the point I could get pretty quick. I double stitched the ends.

Ifloom - I might look into that. I noticed BONDEBOND did some of that as well...

My BAG is not torn anywhere just coming apart at sewed in seams...

ANOTHER THOUGHT - I've got a whole bunch of this PVC landscaping edging material I bet I can cut PVC strips out of it and sandwich on both sides of the Awning Bag where all of the sewing is and use rivets and small washers to hold it all together...
