Replacing the range exhaust vent

Curious I looked at the cable control unit-no specs or how it works (or installed). Did note though it and all other modles (except manual) are made from Color-Fast Geloy. The basic manual cover that most of us have are made from styrene. So may be better.

Im not convinced its sunlight that yellows them though, may speed the process but ours the back inside of cover and flapper itself also yellowed?

The cable units are nice-hidden screws, rounded corners but would need to verify that outside frame dimension will cover original frame holes, looks the same but the cut out size is different?

For a little extra (like x7) Ventline shows a 12v solenoid operated unit!

I did scuff it a little with some wet sandpaper, per sleepy's advice, and it did remove the top layer of yellow. Now, it's just light yellow. LoL

Yeah, there's that option too. But with the exception of a few trips to the local mountains, I doubt we'll ever venture beyond the Southwest region during the winter. Can't stand the cold (and I used to live in Colorado). Anything below 50, I cry like a little girl. :B

Yep. Powder-coated white and you'd never have to think about it again.

What's with that?? I don't see anything like that on mine. I would definitely get that sealed up ASAP.

BTW, I see that 2015's are hitting the dealer lots. I'm seeing MSRP's
as high as $28K with an asking price of $25. Granted, we all know about the retail pricing game, but still. Crazy.

Personally, I want to just cover mine over and be done with it. Not much use anyway and I spend so much time in very cold weather, so it is a big heat loss.

It's funny you mentioned this, Joe. My vent is very yellow and has been bugging me for several months. A couple months ago I ordered a new replacement on Amazon. Just waiting for the weather to cool down before I install it. Will be treating it with 303 once it's installed.

I wish Ventline or someone else made an aluminum version of this vent. It would hold up so much better than the cheap plastic ones being installed now.

I'm shorter than 6' 3", which makes it even more frustrating. Nothing worse than settling in for the night only to realize you have to climb down to go back outside.
Getting on a stool, tippy-toed, in my fuzzy bunny slippers, at 1:00 AM, and doing calisthenics with an exhaust fan flap, is not my idea of happy.

Waiting for other paint to dry decided to paint our vent. This a ventline was replaced 2 years ago and already looks worse than the 10 year old one, which I broke with the awning rod one evening trying to close. Anyway since I had the paint out...

Not sure why once they yellow my eyes are drawn to it...I had painted our door window frame about 5 years ago and it still looks good. cant say enough about the Fusion for plastic- I noted the Rustoleum 2X Ultra that Im using elsewhere say it bonds to plastic- but Ive had such success with the fusion hesitant to try it.



Well didn't make the camper any newer but looks better. Was unaware that ventline made the cable unit-I might have tried. Wnjjs mod motivated me, though I couldn't apply directly because our ventlines outlet is smaller the box sides. There are different cases. We use ours every morning, mostly for steam. Or using the oven. Opening and closing from the inside is nice.

Awesome Idea!!! I had the flap, flap, flap issue last weekend for the first time. I crawled out of bed at 2am and slide the little latches over (6'3" and step stool to just barely reach it).

Here's how I fixed my flapping vent problem. I now have the 100 year old yellowed look and will be getting some of that fusion paint.
