Roof on a new TT

Typically you'll find EternaBond tape in widths from 2" to 12". The width needed is determined by the area that needs to be covered. It comes in the typical colors, white, black, grey, and tan.

With EternaBond tape, the preparation and installation are critical. If the surface isn't prepped properly or the tape isn't installed according to the directions then the tape will eventually lift. This will allow water to enter.

When done properly, the tape will outlast the trailer. Removing the stuff is a pain in the butt, which is a good and bad thing. If there's something on the roof that you know will be replaced or removed, don't bother putting the tape on it. It will save you a lot of swearing when it's time to actually remove the item lol.

I'm brand new to this forum and picking up a new TT next weekend. For those of you who have used Eternabond on the roof, can you please elaborate on which kind. Do they come in different colors? width? etc...

Every 6 months here as well.

Every 6 months is good advice but start NOW even though it is new. You'd be surprised how poor some of the factory jobs are.

As mentioned, you could use Eternabond over all the seems and have less worry. That's the first thing I do with a new tt as soon as it comes home.

I am on my second trailer now.
I have had each one for seven years.
Once a year I wash the roof and inspect it and then put a conditioner on it.

I have never had a problem with any leaks

Twice a year from the day I buy them. It saved my bacon on my last trailer. When it was about 7 years old I noticed the Dicor on a roof seam peeling up a little. Didn't think it was enough to let water in. Just for grins I sprayed water on it and looked inside the upper storage bins and sure enough there was a little water. I took it apart and found some damp wood. Nothing rotted. Dried it out, put in new screws and used Eternabond tape. Problem solved.

Realistically you won't have to worry about it until it is well out of warranty. However, you'll get to know what it looks like up there and when it isn't right, you'll know.

Use eternabond once and you don't really need to do much else.

I check it every winter before hibernation.
Three times in 12 years it has needed minor touch up.

I go up and inspect the day before any trip. Never hurts to check.

I have owned many trailers over the last 50 years. Never had one that didn't start to leak at least once during the time I had it. I go up AT LEAST twice a year with the caulking gun in tow. It's a lot cheaper and easier than repairing water leaks after the damage is done!!
