Roo/Shamrock Floor Construction

Being a retired engineer, I am always curious about "what;s inside" ! I am glad to see that most HTT have gone with aluminum frame, foam, fiberglass laminated panels. I like the look and I am certain they are very thermally efficient. Plus I like the "no wood" aspect.

Forest River (parent of Roo and Shamrock) is one a the few manufacturers who do 6 side construction with aluminum frame, foam, fiberglass laminated panels (at least that is their claim).

I know people are loyal to the brand that they own, but I would like to hear some comments, positive or negative, on this type of construction, especially for floor and roof.

Interesting ! Any one know what the "fix" is ?

They said plywood. Not sure of the installation process.

  • I had a Shamrock 21RS (made on same line as Roo) and it was an '05. While not damaged the floor would flex slightly when walked on. I would have to assume they have probably addressed this problem by now. I tried trading it in at a non Forest River dealer and he thought there was water damage to the floor (despite not being able to find any leaks at all) and I explained it was that way from the factory.

I went down the road to another dealer who was a Forest River dealer and they were familiar with the issue and I traded it in there. They said it would cost $300.00 to "fix the flex". Other than this issue it was a great trailer that I towed with a 4Runner with a 110" wheelbase.

We upgraded both the tow vehicle and trailer.
  • Being in SE MI, you could plan a nice little trip to Millersburg, IN and take a tour of the facility. DH background was in manufacturing management and he thoroughly enjoyed seeing what they do and their systems. Just call for an appt and they'll get you all set up. Think their usual day is Wednesday, but we couldn't work our schedule for that so they were very accommodating and made it fit our travel plans. While you're there, naturally I can't remember the name of the restaurant but they can tell you, just absolutely awesome food. Had lunch there and then just drove around the area and came upon an out of the way place for dinner. The Amish do know how to cook, serve and make you feel very welcome.
  • Well over 80,000 towing miles on my Rockwood and I had over 50,000 before the frst concern was experienced. I believe they are a very solidly built trailer. On the down side there are places on my floor that FEEL soft (right around heat vents) since the floor is built onto foam blocks. Great insulation but the softness can be a little annoying until you realize what it is and what it is not. It is NOT wood rot or any other moisture intrusion problem.
    Good luck / Skip
