In the past AF used one of the cabover side windows as the escape hatch area. They used Fantastic Fans. Never saw an AF with an escape hatch in the ceiling. Just watched a Youtube video on the 2014 AF 811 and they still show the cabover left side window as the escape area. Still using Fantastic ceiling fan (no Heiki)and solid skylight over the kitchen area.
Don't remember if it was Heiki or the other brand...but the hatch was clearly not over the bed...more like the step/hallway area...DW picked up on this right away.( Driver side window in over head is escape hatch also).
The small dinette was a bummer too...too bad...the rest of the AF811 is nice.

I have an 1150 and the Fantastic fan you are talking about is about where your feet are on the bed. That actually is a pretty good location because you can run the controls without having to climb up into the bed. Also when it is warm and you run it light is going to come in through it. By your feet it isn't too bad about letting light in. If it was by your head you would be getting up with the sun. Around here in summer that's before 5:00 am. - billtexExplorer II

Both have better storage than Lance 885S.
Also did not like;
AF811 fridge is on the slide...potential cooling issues in hot weather? Moving parts (propane/electrical lines).
The vent/escape hatch is NOT over the bed area... it is located more over the step area...did not like that at all.
Stay tuned, this week should be decision time.
Bill - 6pacExplorerIn reference to the flex propane line supporting the slide .... We had a propane leak , or at least the dectector would go off when we had a breeze from the passenger side . We were told that the hose was crimped and causing a leak . After replacement of said line at $$$ we still had a problem , replacement of the regulator more $$$$ , after all that $$$ spent the problem was the hole were the tube fed the hot water heater . We caulked it an no more problem !

On a side note, I've spoken with quite a few rv'ers that were insistent about NOT having appliances (stove, oven, refrigerator) in the slideout, because of concerns with propane leaks. Although I may not be as concerned, it may be worth pondering. I'm curious about the thoughts of our fellow forum members.
My AF 1140 has the stove and furnace within the slide out. Ive gotten down and actually watched the flexible propane hose as the slide out is moved in and out. It is surprising that the hose really doesnt have to move that much. The hose appears to be very beefy so I really dont concern myself with it failing. The way they have the line mounted underneath seems to keep it from being distorted or abused. - run100Explorer IICould be a weight issue, since Lance has worked to lighten the campers. (???) However, even with a family of four, we do very well in the 855S.

We've talked to Lance extensively about why they stopped mfging the Lance 881 (which has a full wall slide) . So far we can't seem to get an answer ! The Lance 881 seems to have all the positives an few of the negatives.

Well I looked at EC/Lance and when with a Adventure 980 RDS Better price and dam good quality.
In Fact at dealer had EC and Adventure IMO quality was as good or better than EC
And at the time had the back landing and step set up , PS EC has it now also
Our Adventurer has been VERY good to us, so far the best RV we have owned. It is time for more room though.
FYI EC and Adventurer are built in the same facility by ALP, Adventurer being the value brand.
Considering how well our Adventurer has treated us, I am somewhat inclined to stick with the brand...we'll see what happens, we are making detailed comparisons and taking our time. We have had the Adventurer for 10 yrs, and expect to keep the next camper at least as long...so we want to make the right decision.
Thanks for all the feedback, keep it coming, especialy those that have experience specific to the models listed above.
Bill - Joe417ExplorerWe have no TC dealers in Alabama as far as I know(some dealers will order one for you)so I've looked outside the state. Last fall a Tennessee dealer offered me a Lance 1050S for almost 9K off the sticker. He had comparable prices on other models. A Michigan dealer offered us about as good a deal on an AF.
We decide on an AF because of the full wall slide and the wife didn't like the step recess inside the door on the Lances. We also liked the extra floor width (8 inches) that the AFs had. I think the Lances had that too. We looked at so many online and when passing TC dealers, all the features became a blur.
We looked at Palomino/RealLite, even visited the factory. They didn't have the attention to detail that I require.
The Lances and AFs I've looked at compare well in quality. So it boils down to price, dealer personality, and features that your wife likes best. Good luck.
