Securing generators while camping?

I guess they could go through all that. Most won't want to take that much time and draw that much attention. The other alternative would be around the frame. I like to keep mine under the awning for protection from the weather. If we are going to be gone for the entire day I put it inside the trailer and lock the door.

Are your jacks welded to the frame? If not a thief can take out those 4 self tapping screws in about 30 seconds and take your jack and genny.

It's some amazing stuff to see. A cheap can of compressed air and a hammer can defeat just about any lock, chain, or cable we'd use. As the hardness rating goes up, the easier it is to break it. The only sound you would hear would be the ping from your lock or chain breaking. A combination of out of sight out of mind and locking would be the best bet. A few years back I was looking at some Craigs Lists for the 2KW Generators just to see what the market was for them...

I saw one of these generator listed with a photo showing that it had the steel handle cover added for thief protection. I was looking at his provided photo and you see under the cover where the handle was cut into and perhaps this guy had purchased the metal handle cover to hide where it was cut into hehe...

The generator was gone after a few days so I guess he sold it to someone... He was asking around $600

I saw this thing for Honda units

Cut a piece of plywood, aluminum or metal is better as wide as the generator and long enough to set the genny on, plus long enough to run under your truck or trailer tire. Bolt the generator to the plate then pull the tire over the extended part. Make sure the generator is close enough to the tire, (touching) so a blade can't slide through. The wheel has to be moved off the plate to move the generator. No cables, chains, locks, etc........ Just a thought... :)

I leave my harbor freight $95 800 watt genny out in the open with a donation cup next to it!...so far I've collected $27.50 !!....ummmm, just kidding.
