I have a Ford F350 TV...Powerstroke, Crew cab, 4x4 and last week someone tried to steal it. I was in a motel and at about 7pm the factory alarm went off. I went out to the truck to find the key cylinder in the door punched out and the sob that tried to steal it was gone....he didn't get the truck. I understand the Ford Super Duty's are being stolen at an alarming rate, the Police told me they are stealing more Super Duty's than any other vehicle....Fast and easy he said. How are you protecting your TV when you're on the road or away from it ?

I took thousands of stolen vehicle reports and none of them had a Club or similar device installed on the steering wheel. Seems they see the Club and move on. It's a great visible deterrent.I recall back in the 90's we had a problem with Mexicans coming over the border with master keys to Chrysler products (down-side of them being made down there). The Mexicans would cruise parking lots trying the keys in various door locks until one unlocked. We arrested one of them who had a large key-ring loaded with keys. The keys were crude copies of the master keys, according to our detectives.

I have a throttle cutoff switch on our Super Duty somewhere in the wiring. You might steal it but your getaway is only going to be at idle. Not going to say where switch is, but I do use it all the time. Bad thing is I sometimes forget to turn it back on, makes for a slow drive.

I use a Club on my F-450. It's not fool proof but it does make things inconvenient enough that they might not bother.

My 99 F250 left my backyard one night. I did get it back though.

After having our Ram go AWOL one night, we got it back without too much damage, we went with a club. Not fool proof but it slows down the opportunists looking for a quick joy ride.

I put a Ravelco antitheft system in my ZL1 Camaro. According to the company they have never been defeated. Pretty simple and they work on most any vehicle. I have never put anything like it in my pickups, but I take the Camaro into California sometimes and that is dangerous territory for a ZL1.

Well that sounds good until you add in the Chevy numbers! Do that then see how the math adds up. You need to look at the 2015 sales numbers as that is the truck they are talking about not 2013.

We had more GM vehicles stolen in my area then any other vehicle. One reason was the ease at which they could be stolen as compaired to a Ford or Chrysler vehicle. Not sure how the numbers pan out anymore as I no longer drive wrecker in the evenings. Haven't done that for a long time now.

finding sales with the HD's broken out are hard, but here ya go:

18,600 Chevy 3500 HD's sold to Ford's 85,000 HD F-350's sold over all of 2013. In that comparison, it is 5 Ford HD's sold for every 1 Chevy.
And yes, if you combine the GM trucks (and 3/4 + 1 ton), the ratio drops to something like 2.6 Ford HD's sold for every 1 GM HD, but since theft figures are tracked based on model, rather than manufacturer vehicle type, you must separate by model to be fair.

Lock your tailgates too. Two of my friends who also have Super Duty truck have had their tailgates stolen. The last replacement cost I heard was several thousand bucks. The insurance on my 250 is the highest of everything on wheels in my driveway.

The reality is that the popularity of the vehicle has a lot to do with how frequently they are stolen. Maserati's aren't stolen commonly because they are dang rare. The superduties are stolen more than any other HD truck because there are 3 or 4 on the road for every GM HD that is sold.

It would make sense that total numbers stolen would go hand in hand with total numbers on the road, and hence opportunity. I wonder if they keep stats anywhere based on percentages per set number? As for Maserati's, I see those in the parking lot at work all the time..... Or maybe it was not ever. I get confused sometimes.

I think you might be some what confused. I will pass, most Ram owners are because they secretly wish they had bought a Ford instead!! LOL When you are number one, it puts a big target on you!!!! Happy New Year!!!

Wow, all these methods to prevent vehicles from being stolen. My understanding was that the super duties were the number one stolen vehicle because of all the folks leaving the keys in them, with a welcome mat by the door hoping beyond hope someone would take the darn thing off their hands :B
