I did find some pictures this morning that might help. Here you see me experimenting with the old aluminum rack I had been given combined with my new extension/riser to see how it will work. I have a 20" or so extension stuck in there just to use to help load it. That is what the lower/second ramp is sitting on. I used the second ramp to walk up while pushing the bike. With that super-long ramp it wasn't too bad and I managed toload it by myself (and tweaked my shoulder a bit while doing it.

Here is from the side view. You can see the extension/riser thing with the criss-cross bracing in the center:

This is with my 650r (my "real" bike...the other was my old vintage 600) on the way to the expo. This was the innaugural run. I had a bunch of ratchet straps for safety and to reduce wobble. Remember, the "real" rack is still being built.

Other than being a giant pain to load, it works GREAT and I can't wait to get the rest of the rack completed. I plan on pretty much always having the bike with now, in case of problems with the truck, and for exploring around camp. I plabn on bringing it to Glacier next month and riding it up the Going-to-the-Sun road and to the hiking trailheads we'll be doing with the gang. The bottom line is I LOVE being able to take the bike without a trailer!
