As a employee, wages were ok, depending on which company one worked for, benefits weren't too bad. But as an consultant and if one can get a full year of work...much better, but then no benefits, pay oneself as little as possible, tax write offs, and good investing for retirement, one can do well. But, one can starve if there's no work! Up here most of the work is down during winter months... ice roads allows you to move rigs and such much easier.... lot of guys will 6-8 months straight and take the summer off. At $900-1500.00/day, Thailand, Philippians or the Caribbean are great places to spend summers... or load up the RV and tour the summer.

In 1969 I bought a new 1969 VW Beetle Deluxe 1500cc....for the grand sum of $ 1969....a dollar for each year. But back then I made about $ 285 a month.

New diesels in Canada have become out of reach for most middle class RVers. Unless you have a business and the associated tax right offs you are buyin used. Of course the other option is 8 year financing which will almost certainly have you upside down for a good part of the loan. Pick your poison. I'll be keeping my 09 for many years - but that was always the plan. Sorry to get off topic and I did mean to say congrats to RAM. The 3500 srw cummins is one hansome brute for sure with towing chops to go with.

I recently saw a local dealer advertise that if you bought one of the new top of the line Hyundai cars....they gave you a new small Hyundai....free of charge.
