The new 2018 Ram numbers are out LINK "If you have your eye on a 2017 Ram 3500HD equipped with the optional turbocharged 6.7-liter inline-six diesel engine with an intent to tow, then we’d recommend you wait to sign the paperwork. Next year’s truck equipped with the Cummins-sourced diesel engine will be available with a massive 930 lb-ft of torque—a gain of 30 lb-ft over the torquiest 2017 Ram 3500HD."
And you may as well wait again as the 19's will have even more HP and TQ !

I need those extra HP and torque because? Why do we need to continually add more HP and torque so that people can have bragging rights? Massive amounts of HP and torque in each and then many feel the need to chip and add devices to increase both.
A fool and his money is soon departed.
So I'm a fool if I want to modify my truck? If it weren't for the aftermarket industry, automakers would have no clue what features the consumer actually wanted in their next vehicles.
You can thank fools like me for things like upfitter switches, retractable steps, tailgate steps, LED lighting, navigation, and yes the HP and TQ numbers you currently enjoy.
So by all means, mock those of us who choose to enhance our vehicles while you enjoy the benefits of our foolish endeavors.
Touched a nerve did I? Not meant to mock but I find that my bone stock truck, as the truck before it, provides all that is necessary to pull my rig anywhere I want without adding thousands of dollars to an already inflated purchase price. Does the average person owning a truck need more horsepower without the big 3 racing for the bragging rights.
Can we agree that trucks have inflated prices? I see many many posters on this forum driving older trucks without the massive HP and TQ you speak of who wouldn't trade for any of the newer models.
Thank you ShinerBock for the civil explanation.:C - ThreebigfordsExplorer

Because we can!! Go buy a Prius if you want less horsepower...or move back to 1980 when all cars and trucks s ucked.
They make low power model trucks too. They're called gassers! But heck even them are like 400 horse now. - FlashmanExplorer II

These fellas seem to be fixated on torque much more so than HP. The Ford had almost 50 HP over the Dodge. With torque management and driveline variances it is a wash, even with the Chevy. The GM trucks are the best looking, and if the deal was right they would still get much consideration in my book.
I'm surprised that, the Ford, with 50 more hp it wasn't much faster up the "Ike Gauntlet" ....? In fact, despite their engine output differences, they were all very closely matched.

Tunning or programming is not just about adding power or even peak power. These days, tuning can alter how much power you get at a certain rpm and what the trans does with that power in a certain gear.
For example, while my towing tune does give my truck more peak power, the biggest improvement is the power it makes under 2,000 rpm. The tune alters fuel maps to achieve more torque and power at lower rpms where they are needed the most when towing. This not only makes towing easier, but it also saves fuel by not needing to be at such high rpms to do the same work. Of course there are many other things that custom tuning does to current trucks to help make your truck more unique to your own needs rather than being generic to everyone's needs. - Charlie_D_ExplorerI need those extra HP and torque because?
