Interesting. I'm sure we'll hear from the Ram guys soon that the info is bogus and has no merit.:D
The important question is percent of vehicles sold that are still on the road with over 200,000 miles. Article doesn't answer that. Ford and Chevy sell far more trucks than Dodge.
Dodge sells more diesels than gas trucks. Ford sells more gas trucks than diesel. They study includes both.
Take the big 3 diesel HD trucks over the same time period. What percent of each are still on the road over 200K? I tend to think they'll be about the same with a high percent for all of them. Rare for a diesel truck to be anywhere near worn out with less than 200K. - camp-n-familyExplorer
To me there is a BIG difference between making it to 200K and making it to 200K with very few repairs.
I was thinking this too. What are they basing the list on? Just making it to the mark no matter the repair cost?
Every Toyota and Honda (6)I have owned has easily made it over 200k with nothing more than regular maintenance. (brakes, tires, oil changes) My current Accord has 248k on it and it is bone stock with the exception of sway bar bushings and a $50 piece of power steering line.
Every GM I owned (7) needed head gaskets, alternators and full exhausts before 100k. My current Ram has a new tranny at less than 30k. - MARK_VANDERBENTExplorerHave a 2000 gmc sierra with 306,000 original motor and trans. Still has original wires!! just replaced water pump month ago.

Yeah, right.
Those are in the car list, below the truck list.
Now that makes a little more sense to me, although I'd still like to know more about the methodology. One interesting thing I notice is the #10 truck is barely behind the #1 car in percentage. - NC_HaulerExplorerGlad to see Chevy in there at #2, owned Chevy trucks from 75' until mid 2010..great trucks. Was a Chevy fan boy from the time I turned 16', (in 1966), and even now still have a "soft spot" for them:)

LMAO....Yeah the ram mafia was so mad he blew off the list before reading the entire list.Turtle n Peeps wrote:

Case in point. I use to own a Mazda. When I sold the thing it had over 250K on it and I put about 50 bucks in repairs in it over the years (An exaggeration for sure but not by much).
I now have an Acura with almost 200K on the clock. Worst car I have ever owned. Something is always going out in it or doesn't work. A lot of design flaws in this car. :M
If someone throws enough money at something you can keep it going for ever.
I want to know the repair bills on these trucks. That is what separates the men from the boys! :B
I agree that the cost to make it to 200k is a very important factor (I've said that here before).
Having said that there is some value when owners decided to keep their vehicle and invest in it to keep it on the road vs. deciding they had enough of it and sell it or perhaps the manufacturer is forced to buy it back. :B- BenKExplorerWhat is lost on folks who say it is okay to ignore or go over the ratings...is
that this thread indicative of how long folks think a vehicle is good for...
A new meaning to a 'throw-away society', IMHO
Bought a 1998 Mazada B2500 (Ford Ranger) 'half ton' from credit union lease return
in 2000. Has 28,000 miles. Gave it to eldest daughter around 2003 and it now has
+250,000 miles.
The only thing I did was new tires and battery. Switched to synthetic, NAPA gold
filter. Synthetic in the 5 speed manual. Flushed the coolant (American Green)
She has put a new set of tires, recharged the AC and flushed the radiator.
SIL hauls garden stuff (trees, gravel, dirt, etc) working on their home in S Ca
and is his commuter (works for Disney and round trip is about 40 miles)
They used to ride sport bikes (Ninja and Monster) and towed with a 18 foot
U-Haul.
Also tows a ~3K lb PUP - transamz9ExplorerThis is probably pretty close having gas motors included.
