Weak transmissions in those trucks. Chris
I couldn't disagree more.... And this is coming from a previous 2004 Explorer owner. That Explorer pulled some pretty heavy loads and our 22 bay boat. We sold it with over 150k miles and not a single transmission issue
My BIL will tell you a different story. Google that vintage, lots of transmission issues.
Sport Trac
Most of those transmission problems had electrical leakage in the shift solenoids. Not what I would consider a weak transmission.- rexlionExplorerIt will have an easy time towing the Aliner. The low profile of a popup makes light drive train work.
My wife won't let go of our 2000 Mountaineer (Explorer twin) even though it has almost 200,000 miles on the odometer. Zero drive train problems. I did plenty of towing with it, too. Of course it's an earlier version; they updated in 2001. - PAThwackerExplorerTwo mistakes.
3.8 minivan jeep power
V6 exploder sport trac - fj12ryderExplorer IIIFWIW we pulled a large Starcraft popup with our 2WD 2001 Sport Trac with my Honda sport bike in the back. We took it to Yellowstone, Colorado, and up to Nova Scotia. I can't find my scale tickets, but we were probably way overweight. The truck did fine and was still running well when we sold it. We had no transmission issues and the truck had nearly 100,000 miles at that time.
- rightlaneonlyExplorerThanks, all I could afford.
Door sticker says I have 4:10's. Thank you to those who have given me some insight into the trucks towing ability.
The tranny had a complete rebuild by the previous owner just last year so I'm hopeful it will perform well towing the "A". I will probably baby it with sooner tan needed service. - Me_AgainExplorer III

I have owned quite a few explorers and currently own a 2006 V6 with the 3.55 rear and officially limited to 3500 pounds.
V6 models with the 3.73 were usually rated at approx 5,000.
V8 models varried from 3,500 - 7,xxx but that number vary based on the year as well because around that time is when the V8 engine got the six speed trans I believe for 2006 - dodge_guyExplorer IIAs long as it is in good maintained shaper it will do fine with the Aliner. I had a 95 Explorer 4dr with the old 4.0L and towed an Award TT that weighed almost 5k lbs! the Explorer 4.0 with factory tow pkg has a 5k lb tow rating. and I think 7klbs with the V-8.
