That would sure keep me way if I were researching whether or not to buy. That said, any brand can have an isolated lemon. The question with a relatively new model is "how isolated is this problem?"

I've had good luck with Nissan in the past but the XD would have me leery. All new engine in an all new truck, and there are things about that engine I really dislike such as the timing chains and infamous CP4 grenade. I don't really see much in the way of advantages compared to getting the bigger Cummins in the Ram.

Better of getting the 6.7L Cummins. You get more power and there is not much of a difference in fuel economy. The only reason Cummins created the ISV5.0 was to make an engine that would fit into to tighter spaces where an inline 6 of the same displacement would have a hard time fitting into like cab overs and vans.

Seems to be all too common with diesel pickups. What is really annoying is with all the computer "gadgetry", they are still not smart enough to tell the techs what the problem is. Throw in the typical lack of engineering principles used to write software, and a you have real recipe for issues.My F250 has had a couple of instances of clogged DPF and limp mode issues that nobody seems to be able to diagnose.

I wouldn't waste my money on a half ton diesel truck, go all in or go gasser.Zero issues with my previous 2011 diesel in the 110k miles I had it and so far I have 23k miles and zero issues on this one. I don't think you can drive the new diesels around town, they need to be worked and run for a long time to keep from clogging.

I had a 2012 half ton Titan before this and towing my trailer is night and day. The older truck had decent power but the stability of this heavier truck is great. So far I am pleased with the truck.

Thanks for your response in answering my question. Maybe its just a fluke that some of these trucks have issues. I know how that is, I have an 07 Camry with every quirk that the 07 first production run came with...So I know it takes a year or so for the quirks to be worked out. I generally will never purchase first production run model years, but got the Camry years ago used and in perfect one owner shape.

I don't believe Toyota met their original production targets. The factory they built in San Antonio was for the Tundra production only as far as I know. When sales dropped Toyota retooled a portion of that factory to produce a car to help absorb operations costs. In addition they improved their truck assembly line to make it more efficient during their production shut down due to low demand. You know Toyota and Lean Mfg both go together.

First thing Toyota would face is all the "Toy Truck" comments like they did with the Tundra. Maybe after 5 years of service and people seeing they hold up, people might start buying them.

All the offerings from the Big 3 are really quite good so I don't see room for a 4th player.

I think it is pretty easy to argue that Toyota really isn't competitive even in the 1500 series market. They can't have much more than 10% marketshare there.

My point exactly; so why would they venture in to the 3/4 ton market? My feeling about Toyota in the 1/2 ton market is they probably hit their target numbers, make a nice profit, but know full well they will never sell anywhere near what the Big 3 sell.

There's a lot of brand loyalty in the truck market segment that's very hard to crack.
