I'm one that wants leather seats. Most leather seats are vinyl. The highest trim levels in the Ford actually nice leather. Once I'm set on a KR or Platinum I want the rest of it too. I don't think there is much difference in price between a plain Jane XLT 4x4 crewcab diesel and a loaded Platinum.
The difference between XLT and
Platinum can be $10-15k
I like leather but don't need 10 cameras, a.c. seats, power mirrors, auto lights, auto brake etc. So I buy mid level and have an upholstery shop put good leather heated seats.
If it costs an extra 15 for the Platinum you might get 1/3 of that back 10 years down the road. So, the extras likely cost about $1000 per year. Maybe an xlt depreciates 3k/year and a Platinum 4k/year. As long as it doesn't come out of the 20k per year that a couple is saving for retirement they'll never miss it. - Wild_CardExplorer

Yeah and it also amazes me how much people care about what others do with their own money. Last I checked we live in the US and not communist Russia. If someone one wants to buy a decked out F450 diesel just to haul a few sacks of groceries then why is it anyone else's business or concern?
Every wonder if, by some crazy turn of fate, the unregulated and irresponsible corporations that loan people money to buys useless things (say, GM or Lehman Brothers...) goes bankrupt?
.
And even crazier, the government uses people's hard earned tax dollars to save mega-corporations, in a one-way capitalism?
The auto industry could be very well headed for a bubble, running off large amounts of debt.
Actually you have the same largess in Putin's Russia Some very wealthy people have nany over the top vehicles.Communist Russia died a long time ago - 4x4ordExplorer IIII'm one that wants leather seats. - transamz9ExplorerI wanted the black wood trim so I had to by a Limited. I didn't need or want anything else.
- PowerdudeExplorerIf you don't like an option, don't pay for it.
While it is true that some options that people want are often bundled in a "package", you still don't have to pay for the package.
Oftentimes, there are cheaper alternatives. MUCH cheaper.
For example, you can buy a cloth seat pickup that has power seats, and then get some really nice leather covers for them that fit like a glove, if you really want leather seats but none of the other options which are included in the "package".
Most of those package options are there to increase the profit margins of the manufacturer. They are often the result of focus groups, which are usually quite small and not statistically representative of a lot of buyers.

x2. Few people buy trucks like that. I did. Then I had to cough up several grand for a bed, and my truck looked like a construction vehicle.
"pickup box delete." That probably explains the size of the discount - they're not getting a lot of interested buyers.
You say that like it is a bad thing... - JarlaxleExplorer II

People want them and are buying them....so they make them.
The walk around is to buy the same truck in a base trim version.
If you can get one. Just TRY finding a truck on a lot that isn't a loaded 4x4! - BedlamModeratorI’ve bought four trucks since 1982 and each had doubled in price to the previous one. None of my trucks have been fancy, but they are capable within their class. Each of my trucks had more capacity than the previous, so it not like a F150 costs eight fold in 33 years...

So let me get this straight, we ***** about rv's being cheaply built or missing all the bells and whistles and how we would rather pay more for a quality unit, but we also ***** about trucks having all the bells and whistles and we really just want to drive sweatboxes while towing our chariot.
Yeah, that's what it sounds like doesn't it?
Me - I drive the nicest cars I can afford and don't give a rats azz what anyone else thinks. I like to drive in comfort, and as long as I can afford it, I'll do it.
