Unlevel Fridge

How long can your fridge be off level while in use before it causes permanent damage? I need to park the trailer at the curb and the road is not level. Will it cause much damage if it is out there for about 5 hours?
  • I turn mine off if not level for longer than 5 minutes.
  • Good advice ^^^^.

How off level are you going to be? Facing the front of the fridge, you can typically be off level up to 6 degrees front to back, and 3 degrees left to right (side-to-side) without sustaining any damage.

Or, you can throw your worries to the wind and consider installing an ARP unit.

Heck, I even turn mine off when we arrive at the campground - while I'm inside the office checking in my wife turns the fridge off ... probably unnecessary but doesn't cost anything to do. When we return home I always also turn the fridge off before going through all the motions to get our trailer parked on our significantly sloped driveway. Pundits may scoff but better safe than sorry. ;)

Why take the chance at all? ... just turn it off, the contents will be fine as long as you don't constantly open & close the door. I do this all the time if we stop during the day to sightsee, even times when we stop for lunch and the trailer is noticeably off level. Remember, damage to an absorption fridge is incrementally accumulative so just because it continues to function after doing this once, or twice, or many times, doing so will eventually result in blocked cooling tubes. Turn it off - better safe than sorry. ;)
