TW and UVW are to different things. However UVW includes the TW of the unit as it left the factory.
Keep in mind the unit generally does not have full LP tanks or a battery at that point so the TW reflected in the UVW figure is not ready to camp accurate.
Federal regulations require that the weight of full propane be included in UVW. Are you saying that the manufacturers don't do that?
not completely accurate. fed regulations state that full weight of propane must be used when determining available CCC. On my trailer if you take GVWR-UVW > CCC by the 60 lbs of two full propane tanks.
and prior to around 2009 I don't know if there was a "standard" method for the yellow sticker. After around 2009 it was/is required to state the empty weight at it left the production line. then
dealers are legally required to update the sticker if anything they add increases the weight by more than a certain % or lbs.
When we got our 2010 outback I drove it empty to the scales and weighed it. the scales read in 50lb increments and my empty weight was within 25lbs of the yellow sticker.
When we looked at the trailers, there were 3 identical trailers to choose from, different interior colors being the only difference. All three had different empty weights, varying about 25 lbs in total between the three. So outback was probably weighing each trailer as it left the assy line and printing a sticker.
