Water pump not circulating anti-freeze

SEVEN GALLONS? I have never need over 2 gallons to winterize any RV, and that includes pouring a large amount down every drain and into the toilet! You will never get the antifreeze taste out of the fresh water tank. I truly wish you had asked here first.

Never put antifreeze in the FW tank. Use the 2'pickup hose that is in between the pump and the FW tank. If you don't have one there put one. $15.00. It only takes 2 gal to fill and RV with antifreze.

At this point might want to take line off tank. Help with flushing/draining tank, and could put that line in can of anti-freeze. Install the kit later.

No big deal, just get the winterizing kit and find the water heater bypass.
Once you learn, it's a quick and simple process and minimal antifreeze used.

FYI, it took my BIL 9 gallons of antifreeze before he installed the kit.

PattiWong, Welcome to the forum. Yeah, you will get lots of information here but, sometimes people can be aggressively critical. First off, what you did was not wrong, many people winterize this way. There are better methods but don't feel like you messed up.

My first concern came up when you said that the pump was not circulating the pink stuff from your water tank. Was your pump working before? The bypass winterizing connection is the best if you can easily access your pump. If the pump isn't working, that will be another issue.

Getting the pink stuff into your tank and then through your pipes isn't a big deal. You can flush all of this out in the spring. I would caution you though to take great precautions to avoid getting this into your hot water tank. I did this my mistake and had to deal with foaming water from my hot faucets for most of a season. I think it had something to do with the surface inside my tank, or the heating of any residual left behind. None of this is DANGEROUS, RV antifreeze is not poisonous but it does have a strange taste....

I don't put antifreeze in my FW tank, mainly because it would cost a lot for many gallons. In my trailer access to the water pump is close to impossible so I can't use the by pass system. I winterize my trailer each year with compressed air. That is a discussion for a later time. Best wishes as you move forward learning the ropes.

Pay someone to winterize your trailer and watch what they do or get a RV owner to walk you through the process. You need to drain the water heater and and bypass it to winterize. You drain in water out of the water tank and leave it empty. As others have said 1 to 2 gallons at most to winterize a TT.

Wow you guys have jumped to alot of conclusions and assumption. Using fresh tank to winterize as mentioned is completely normal and suggested in some manuals. I did not read that he deluted the pink with water it was only put as a question unless i missed it. Drain the hw tank and bi pass it then figure out which valves need to be open or closed and pump away... no need tor a kit if u have the pink stuff in your fresh tank.

Thanks, Monaramblee. I did not dilute the antifreeze, it is sitting in my fresh water tank. The pump won't draw it out and circulate.. I do not know how to prime the pump. My main question was : How to get the pump to do its job.

So, in doing research I ran across the method of using a winterization kit, so have bought the parts and have decided to try that. Will just drain the tank into a bucket and use it.

This is my first RV and so I have a steep learning curve, but am not resistant to getting my hands dirty. I just don't want to damage my camper.

Patti, you can prime your pump by removing the suction hose from pump and replace it with another 18" to 24" hose then put a small funnel in this hose, pour a small amount of antifreeze in the funnel then remove the funnel and put the hose into the anti freeze jug. That should prime the system.
