WD hitch Curt Mfg.

Anyone using a Curt Mfg. WD Hitch #17007 ?
Feedback much appreciated.
  • What was really sad about this company is that the dealer new more about the product than the person answering the phone at Curt (she wanted to play customer service):)
  • I have this setup. It works fine and I did add a friction style sway device.

I did have an issue with a spring rivet backing out. This spring engages the piin when the bars are inserted. There is a kit you can order to replace the rivet, spring and pin. Must be a common problem if curt sells this as a kit.

To repair or insure this doesn't happen again, I installed a hose clamp over the Rivet.
  • What I did and have suggested to others is to start out with the Reese 'bent' WD bars. That gives you the option to add a dual cam kit later if needed.
That said, as mentioned above, if the TT is properly loaded you shouldn't need any sway control.

I know that Curt makes some quality stuff... Not sure if they actually make this one, or just slap their sticker on it.

Regardless, basic WD hitches are all pretty much the same so I would go for price..

That doesn't make them a bad choice though. They have been around seemingly forever and most everyone starts out with one.

And I think they should. Add friction control to it and go camping.

These hitches are pretty much foolproof. Even setup badly, they provide some benefit.

Later on as you gain experience, you may want to go in another direction. The integrated sway control hitches all have their strengths and weaknesses, but they all share one achilles heel.

Since the sway control is part of the weight distribution, then it is more important to get the setup right... This can be difficult, ,,,especially so if it is your first hitch, and it is why I don't recommend them for new people.
  • It's a basic, inexpensive round bar WD hitch..it will do the job. Nothing fancy, nothing complicated. It is often the choice when dealers set up hitches for new trailer owners.

Keep in mind that there is no integrated sway control with this hitch. Only choice would be to add a basic friction bar.

There are certainly "better" choice available. (my opinion).
