I have not actually tried manually folding mine, but twice upon returning to my truck in a parking lot I found one of the mirrors folded where someone had apparently bumped against it. I just hit the switch to fold the other one, then hit it again and both unfolded. No problem.
I expect the extend/retract would be the same.
Put new tires on my dually out in Washington state this spring.
First thing the service (tire) guy does when he drives my truck into the shop was manually folded in the drivers side mirror. I almost came unglued. Quickly but amazingly politely told him they were power mirrors and don't do that again!
But, as others have said, no ill affects and they both work fine today.
Don't know why, but I have just started folding my mirrors in when I park side by side with other vehicles at restaurants and other shopping areas. Maybe I'm getting more polite in my old age, but figured its not worth having some clown fold them in manually while I am away from the vehicle. - ib516Explorer II

Do the Ram flip-up mirror controls change when "flipped" so left/right up/down is correct?
Yes. Somehow they do. - Buck50HDExplorerDo the Ram flip-up mirror controls change when "flipped" so left/right up/down is correct?
- HannibalExplorerOne of mine got folded around to the front one time when someone hit it with his own elephant ear mirror from behind as he swung wide to make a U-turn. I lost all cool and went after him. He said he didn't realize he hit it but just the same, I pushed it back into position and it's never been a problem. I had forgot about it until just now reading BB_TX's post.

power folding mirrors are great. when they don't work get out your wallet and remember how great they cost. simple is better.

If and when they stop working you can elect to moving them the manual method. No big deal...
Can you still manually extend them if they quit? IDK how they have the motorized part of the extend set up but it seems it would strip gears if you manually pulled them in and out? Either way the power fold and extend would be the cats meow.
I've manually folded and pulled the mirrors out on mine just to see what would happen. I couldn't feel or hear any ill effects.- transamz9Explorer

Originally I wasn't a fan of the Ford "Man Step" but after having it for 2 years now I don't get into the bed of the truck without using it. larry barnhart wrote:

And going in and out of parking garages, bank lanes and parking in crowded lots, my power folding, extending and heated mirrors are still working like new after almost five years and 82k miles. I'm sure the quiet GM keeps the ladies happy.
