Your manual, and I assume this is true for the Powerstroke and Duramax as well, just calls for API certified DEF. Walmart Super Tech is API certified and runs a bit over $8 per 2.5 gallon jug, and I've used it without issues - it's more convenient for me than driving across town to get it at a pump. I don't see a reason to pay more for the name brand stuff - it probably comes from the same factory anyway.
Which is 1.75 to 2.00 higher than at a truck stop. Buying from a truck stop gets you the freshest Deffects and you only buy what you need to fill the tank.

I doubt the cost difference per gallon is that much, but even if it is it's completely immaterial - you couldn't even buy a decent six pack of beer with your annual savings. More importantly, it isn't available at the pump in a convenient location for me. - WTP-GCExplorerI've always bought the Peak Blue DEF because its been the cheapest in my area. But now Advanced Auto Parts is marketing their own brand and its about $2 cheaper. I agree with the notion that DEF is such a super small part of the overall cost of ownership and there's no point in squabbling over a dollar or 2.
FWIW, DEF has no real effect on any important powertrain/drivetrain function. Yes, in order for your computer to be happy and everything to work in sync, the DEF system needs to function correctly. But the DEF junk is basically all the same enough across all brands that it doesn't matter. And if you come to that point where the DEF system is giving you trouble, well there's an answer for that problem too.
edit: Instead of the phrase "DEF junk" above, I originally chose to the use the phrase "DEF cr-ap" but without the dash. The system edited it with 4 asterisks, as if it were a dirty word. What the heck???? Why be so overly sensitive and PC? If RV.net had bathrooms, I think I can see how that arrangement would be. - Perrysburg_DodgExplorer

But it also gets you the highest risk of contaminated DEF as well compared to a sealed container.
I've been running the API rated stuff in a container for almost 4 years and 92k miles without a single DEF issue.
Contaminated as in what? The pumps have filters on them (Flying-J and Pilot anyway). The only other thing I would worry about would be water in the holding tanks maybe. The DEF in an underground tank will be fresher than from a container. Heat is the what degrades DEF so unless the containers are in an area below 65* they will start to degrade.
Dirt would be the big thing as it will clog the injector not sure what effect rain or ground water would have on DEF. Also I have no idea what size holding tank they are running but the larger the tank the lower the effect.
Don - MudChuckerExplorerWhile I just buy what ever def fluid I need where ever... I have a friend that tops up his with pure distilled every other half tank... He's had no problems either.
- N-TroubleExplorerHave always used Peak Blue 2.5 gal containers. I find it comical that guys get bent out of shape about the miniscule cost of DEF on a $50k+ truck. The amount you'll save on at the pump DEF might get you a free tank of fuel over the life of the truck. Yippee...
Bottom line is use whatever is most convenient and dont buy into dealer rhetoric B.S. about how their overpriced stuff is superior. Its not... There are only a handful of DEF producers which sell the same stuff under different brands/names. Perrysburg Dodgeboy wrote:

- diftwExplorerI have been using the bulk DEF at truck stops. So far so good...and much cheaper than DEF in containers.
- CampingN_C_ExplorerI'm sure he would only recommend Ram floor mats too if you asked him.
