Whose Running Michelin Defender LTX M/S tires on a 1/2 ton??

I need to replace the tires on my F150 this fall and we currently do not own a travel trailer but one is in our near future and want to prep the truck the best I can for when we do purchase.

Here's what I'd prefer

I had the predecessor to that tire on my F250 and absolutely loved them.

They are 135 pounds higher in carrying capacity than the P rated tires that came on the truck factory and aver 1000 pounds higher than the axle rating... Seems like cheap insurance to me.

No I'm not looking to up payload with tires and.....;)

Just looking for some field experience from anyone running this tire.

Thanks!!!!!
  • I just put on 20" Defenders on my 1/2 ton SUV. Great tire. But still on the softer side of things. May be the LT versions in other sizes stiffen up.

I had tried KOA2's about 2 months ago but suffered VERY poor dry traction and tread squirm while towing. The 123" short wheelbase was likely a factor in this, but I felt unsafe with them and took them off.

Having tried so many tires on my tow vehicles, I feel ATR's (LTX ATR might be the next tire for me) or at least XL rated tires are the min for towing.

HP and UHP tires are awesome for towing believe it or not, I wish more people would try them. (My best towing has been with HP and UHP tires on my SUV's) Less off road and winter driving ability is the trade off.

LT's are without a doubt the best for heavy towing with 3/4 and 1 tons. On a 1/2 ton, meh. Cant go wrong. But you may pay too much for something you dont really need are can be rough riding on everyday.

I am. Just put them on. Went from P275/60R20 to LT275/65R18.

Any specific reason for going to the 18s from the 20s??

The reason I ask is that I have 20" wheels factory and wanted to keep them.
  • i agree, put the LT tires on. they will wear better with the load and give you more stability when towing.
