You think only TC has COG problem?

Took this picture at campground.
Notice the motorhome has stabilizing jacks only on the rear.
That's only becouse 3 persons going to rear bedroom would lift front off the ground.

  • OPs name in real life is Hank Johnson from GA.
Stay away from those unstable islands!

Really, do you think the stabilizers are there just to keep the RV from tipping? They are called "STABILIZERS", not anti-filp backwards devices. They keep RV from wobbling on its springs when humans move around inside. A person walking around like a lumbering walrus is second in annoyance to the crinkly bag girl who likes to adjust her "luggage" late at night.
  • Regardless of the COG, don't be in the adjacent lane when it turns.
  • The rear overhang does affect towing and ground clearance, but there is enough weight froward of the rear axle that it is not unloading the front axle due to occupants. My truck has about 7' of my camper aft of the rear axle, but the fresh water tank is against the forward wall followed by the gray and even half of the black tank forward of the rear axle. If I didn't use a weight distribution hitch on my heavy trailer, that would affect more of the front axle weight than how the camper is loaded or where the occupants are currently located.

The scary part is that someone new to RVing could actually believe such a statement . The reason it only has STABILIZERS in the rear is because that is all that's needed . STABILIZERS are there to take out the movement of the tires and springs as weight is shifted around ( people ) while camping . They are not levelers meant to lift a camper . It would be an interesting college prank to see just how many people you had to stuff in the rear of the thing to lift the front wheels off the ground .
  • Couple of issues:
    - I suspect you will find no engine behind the rear axle and likely not water tanks or other heavy items...it's mostly air back there when going down the road.
    - 3 people back there when it's parked...if the trail is a rockin, don't come a knocking.

As far as TC, as long as you aren't wildly off on COG, 6" in front vs 6" in back of the axle...if you notice a difference, it's in your mind.

Not really. My 12' TC has COG behind rear axle and when new truck carries it fine, putting 200 lb of waste water in rear tank makes noticeable handling difference.
Now I rarely drive with waste water, but that happens occasionally.
I am at 70-80% of my rear tires capacity BTW.

So do I actually. I stay away from those threads.
