- Gary66ExplorerI just came back from there 2 weeks ago, I thought I-30 to I-635 was good
- jmaottoExplorerLiving in Rockwall county for 33 years, which is east of I635 and between I20 and I30, I30 to I635 is the way to go.
- Lou_PatExplorerWe took 380 in fall of 2013 on recommendation at Welcome Center. It was awful - lights, traffic, construction, stop and go. Unless things have changed don't recommend this route.

I-30 to I-635 on east side of Dallas, south on I-635 to I-20 west. Easy changes and bypasses most of Dallas and Ft Worth on the south side. Just don't approach Dallas on I-30 early on a weekday morning, 6 am to 9:30 am. After that you will not likely have any traffic problem, barring an accident of course.
You will experience most of the congestion from Rockwall to I-635. Watch your speed because you can usually count on at least one Mesquite PD of Texas DPS on that section of road.
I second the suggestion of trying to plan your trip thru when your not stuck in AM or PM rush hour traffic.
Expect potential slowdowns in Arlington, S Ft Worth and Weatherford. - PawPaw_n_GramExplorer

I would take US380 west at Greenville to US281 south back to I-20.
At one time, 380 was a good route. It is still a good road, but due to massive population growth and associated traffic, no longer a good bypass route. Just the 35 miles between east side of McKinney and west side of Denton there are over 40 traffic lights now and lots of traffic to go with them.
I live just off 380. :(
380's issue are not just between McKinney and Denton.
The construction in Farmersville is starting to get finished. But you can still be detoured onto small city streets any day.
The construction on 380 west of Denton in Wise county has reached a stage to not cause delays, but the construction on 380 in Denton county is starting to cause delays.
And of course driving through the center of Denton with their narrow lanes and constant traffic turning in and out of businesses is so much fun. - PawPaw_n_GramExplorer

Lived close to 26 years in northeast Dallas suburbs.
Always take I-635/ I-20 around the south side of the metroplex when headed west on I-20. - Vette_RacerExplorer
