How to avoid FL Toll Roads

I will have to agree with Hank on this one, Hwy 27 from Clermont down to Lake Placid is plagued with many traffic lights, and in some area's just plain congested. Locals around here when headed north in particular avoid that route. I would rather pay a few dollars in tolls than the extra miles, fuel and aggravation of HWY 27 especially during the winter season.

Well I find the FL. Toll Road is not bad at all. Took it from I75 all the way to Miami. Only get messed up when we hit Miami. They could do better with there signs.

Plan to take Toll on return also.

You can head east on I-10 to I-295 (Jax) to I-95 south all the way to the airport xpway (sr 112) to the airport area. Don't believe there is toll westbound. Going that way is only slightly longer than Turnpike.

In the old days we used to take 27 to Miami all the time. The southern section by the sugar cane fields had deep canals on both sides. Folks would run off the road and sink sometimes not be found for days, weeks or longer. It was narrow two lane with many fatal head ons. Once 75 and Alligator alley opened up we stopped using 27, but now that it is 4 lanes and much safer, its a good route if you don't mind a few small towns. Route 60 between Tampa and YeeHaw junction is a similar good route East/West across the state. I rarely use I4.

The sun pass stick on transponder used to Come with $5 credit toward tolls making it basically free.

I belive that by August 2016 all toll systems nation wide have to be interoperable by government mandate.

We have EZpass and that is replenished automatically from a credit card account. Even when the transponder doesn't work, they cross reference the plate to the account and the toll is just taken from the account balance. Do they do that with the Sunpass accounts? Is Sunpass on the EZpass system?

No, Sunpass is not on the EZPass system. Wish it was for my trips up north.

Wondering how that Toll by Plate works when MH has a toad behind it.

But this will be a car only trip this time.
