HWY 50 - From Montrose to Pueblo - In 45 foot 5th Wheel?

Is this going to be a white knuckle drive going over Monarch Pass with a 45 foot 5th wheel? I've driven on 550 between silverton and ridgway (NOT with a 5th wheel but a truck camper and a cargo trailer behind) and I will NEVER do that drive again with a cargo trailer and truck camper) road is too sketchy for me with.

Is HWY 50 like this? Anyone done this with a 45 footer?

Not like RT 550 - just like most other passes in Colorado - not easy but you gotta get over those Mountains - The issue is the Construction that basically has the road closed all week and only open on the Weekend,

Look at CDOT and just be smart.

    Best of Luck,
  • Hwy 50 is a piece of cake. The construction between Montrose and Gunnison can cause you problems though.
  • I would say it is nothing like 550.
Gunnison Canyon is a little narrow. Not bad though. Great campground on eastern end of lake, Elk Creek Campground.
    You should have no problems.
    We have MH with toad,
Take your time! Lots to see!
  • I can tell you for sure that 50 from Montrose to Gunnison is much easier than 550. Beyond Gunnison, I don't know.

And as of right now, Google routes you around a construction zone east of Montrose. Don't know how long that project will go on.
