Yes, I have posted that same suggestion several times. I think it is a great alternative to going on up through Dallas/Fort Worth.
Glad it was of some value to you. - ekirklandExplorerThanks guys; I'll give the bypasses around Memphis and Dallas some thought; I hate driving through both.

I-20, but I would not go on to Dallas. I would take US 69 (from just north of Tyler) up to US 82 and over to US 287 to Amarillo. We have been following this route for years in order to avoid the traffic in and around Dallas/Fort Worth.
Actually, we take US 271 up to Paris, TX and then over on US 82, but that is because of where we live in East Texas.

X2 - padredwNomadI-20, but I would not go on to Dallas. I would take US 69 (from just north of Tyler) up to US 82 and over to US 287 to Amarillo. We have been following this route for years in order to avoid the traffic in and around Dallas/Fort Worth.

Going west thru Memphis is a pain and both trips we have dropped down to West Helena, AR to cross the Mississippi river and then back up to I-40.
The eastern half of I-40 for this trip is very rough as I guess it has been torn up by truck traffic. I actually modified my TV suspension after the first trip to reduce the porposing.
If we do this again, I would consider another route. - Thom02099Explorer IIPresumably you're going from Auburn AL (your profile home) to Santa Fe NM (as stated in your header). If so, I-20 to Dallas to US287 then west to Amarillo TX, getting on I-40 there, then continuing west to US285 to go north to Santa Fe.
- ekirklandExplorerThanks guys. The trip will be in May.
- 2gypsies1Explorer IIIIt's around 1340 miles either way. Neither will have great scenery - typical interstates. Take your pick.
