If you're going to Monument Valley....

I agree that Mokey Dugway should not be done while towing but..... In a car or pickup fine. Shortly after reaching the top there is a left turn that takes you about 5 miles to Muley Point. The 5 miles is not a road so much as 2 tire ruts in/over powder, gravel, stone and the occasional boulder to avoid. We saw a couple small cars that made it so any vehicle can make it with the driver paying attention. The view from Muley Point is WELL WORTH the time to drive it. Monument Valley is over 25 miles away but easily visible. Goosenecks State Park is below it. Muley Point is a must for any photographer amateur or pro.

I read about Moki Dugway on this forum and decided that IF we were ever in the area again I'd have to see it for myself. Well we were last year and it was awesome! In good weather I'd say it would be doable, however I wouldn't take that ride with our fifth wheel in crappy weather. It's mostly stone and I'd be a bit leary about "slipping" with the trailer.

I drove up once with a truck camper, another time drove down with a 25FT. class C. If I get in the area again I will drive it again. The view is great. there is a video of a semi truck descending, somewhere on the inter net.

I do agree about big rigs and trailers keeping off but it is doable and we watched folks do it with trailers going both up and down. It is a UPS route as it is faster and fewer miles.

I happen to think it was a really cool drive but then again I think off pavement desert roads are the most fun you can have with your clothes on. The DW and I did it a couple of years ago in our Grand Vitara but I think a VW bus could do easily in either direction. Oh Yeah! I t was the DW's idea to go down the Dugway.

Muley(not Muller)Point and the Goose Necks are cool areas too.

The maps will show a bunch of switch backs. They don't make those for fun. Google maps also has terrain, sat, and streetviews.

Thee latest set of streetview are pretty, with snow on the cliffs.

Yep... Google maps, and a Garmin. The sign that is right before the "road" that you descend on, has a sign but not length or weight limit listed. All i know is that its a 10% grade with hairpins and a 5 mph limit, for 3 miles. My Class C weighs 14,000lbs, and with the motorcycle on the back is about 34ft long

I drove this with my family (wife, mom and dad) last year. I think they’re all still having nightmares. I couldn’t imagine driving this with any trailer!

We went down the Moki Dugway this summer in a pickup truck only, crew cab dually. I can't imagine trying to get down that with a trailer. It was tense enough with just the pickup. I would think that to make many of those hairpin turns with a trailer, you would have to get part way through, backup, then make the rest of the turn. And I have no desire to find out if that is how it is done. On a side note, we had a great lunch at Mexican Hat after we came down the dugway.
