California winter RV locations without freezing temps?

I am looking for suggested RV parks or communities where it doesn't freeze in December. We are trying to stay as far north as possible so that we can visit the kids over next year's holidays without major expense. How far south do we need to go? We will be coming from the Seattle, WA area and are hoping for somewhere in northwestern California. We need to be able to leave the RV unattended for a few days, so a private RV park is necessary. Thanks!
  • I live in Redding and don't know what winterizing is. Seldom gets below mid 30s. As with any winter, cold snaps can happen.
  • We are hoping to be able to drive back to Seattle since my mom lives in Albany and we would also like to visit her. Thanks!
  • Beach locations do not freeze. Some are nicer in the winter than in the summer. Pismo Beach seems to be sunnier in the winter time - there is something about the mountains between PB and the central valley - when it is sunny in the central valley, it is foggy here (summer), but in winter it reverses.
  • If your flying back to Seattle, we like the Bakersfield or Yuma area compared to Sacramento area.

Not that big of difference in air fare on west coast but big difference in how often heater comes on.
  • Vacaville just west of Sacramento, Vineyard RV park is lovely. In Morgan Hill there is a lovely park my son stayed at for 3 weeks this year, Maple LeafRV, or something like that. Both these parks are nice for overnight and extended stay.

You can never say never on the freezing but in NW CA. this should be as good as it gets -close to ocean. Drop further south and stay near the coast for least chance of freezing. Monterrey Salinas south to Santa Barbara you should have nicer winter weather compared to NW CA.
  • You really do need to narrow down where your California destination is.

As a rule of thumb anywhere in California below 2000 ft elevation will rarely have freezing temperatures. There may be a few hours overnight that hit or are near freezing but not full days of freezing temps.

You could leave a 60 watt bulb in a lamp on and it would provide enough heat to keep things from freezing.

You did not mention where in California the kids live, but if they live nearby the Sacramento or San Francisco Bay Area any campground in the California delta would be OK as to temperatures, near water, and within a hour or two of Sacramento and San Francisco.
  • Need to be a bit more specific in location. Anywhere in the Sacramento Valley will be temperate. Freezing conditions in the Valley last just a couple of days at a time and are not common in general. I have never winterized. If a few nights of freezing are predicted I will open cabinets and turn the heater to its lowest setting.

I would say from Redding southward will give you nice weather. I'm a native northern Californian.
