Canyon RV Park in Anaheim, CA

We're heading out to Southern California for a 6 week stay there during our 3 month trip in March-June, 2015. We found a CG that's reasonably centrally located called Canyon RV Park in Anaheim, off the 91 FWY near the 245 interchange.

I'm familiar with the area as that's near where we used to live in Orange County.

Does anyone have any personal experience with that park? Their weekly rate is $300, which is a little steep, but we've budgeted for that. They charge $1/day per dog and we have 2.

From looking at their event calendar, it looks like a lot of groups and get togethers there. But, the park map seems nice. We're going to be in space 100 (which coincidentally was the last available space) and it's right near the maintenance yard.

Anyone have anything to share?
  • We're from out thataway -- lived in Orange County for 35 years, which is the reason for the long stay -- lotsa friends and family. I didn't think I'd love Alabama so much when I transferred here after the '08 fiasco, but I'm an Alabama boy now! Still, can't wait to visit! DW can just remove her hearing aids and me, I've tuned out her snoring for some years now, heh heh.
  • I've stayed there a couple days. Large well separated sites with trees and grass-shows it's roots as a regional park. Right on the 91 FWY so you get the sound-but some of the freeway is at a higher elevation. I was able to tune it out kind of like white noise. Weather in general March thru June is nice. I think you'll like it fine if you aren't sensitive to the nearby freeway sounds.
  • We stay there all the time. Only issue is freeway noise. There's no getting away from it. Park is nice, spaces are large and it's usually pretty quiet aside from the freeway noise. The park has been full recently with "transient" workers, the higher paid specialty kind, working on the various projects in the area. No issues with them they are just there to do their job and then get home to their families every few weeks or months.

Bring your favorite ant repellent/poison and spray around everything. We got invaded last year after two days when I failed to spray.

BTW $300/wk is pretty cheap in these parts. Check Prado Regional park a few miles away they are $225/wk full hookups two weeks max. Nice park but you get more traffic on the 91 during commute hours (which is just about 24hrs a day any more).
  • March to June should be real nice and the group of us that rally there are there in April and trees are not usually too big of an issue. Hasn't really heated up yet. Depending on the site you have on the trees. Some areas more shaded than others.
  • Checked it out on Google Earth as suggested -- heh, heh, 1 dang tree. LOL. But, maybe we can move to a better spot after we've been there a while. Thanks, folks.
  • Is there an enclosed dog run? Couldn't see it on the site map.
  • We(RV.net group) have used this Park for several years now as our yearly Rally location. For a place that's close to everything you feel as if your out in the wilderness. We are normally in the back portion of the Park near the River. Nice Park overall.
  • I have stayed there quite a few times with family over the past few years. It is one of my favorite parks because it it close to home.

The spot you are in is open with little shade but you don't have anyone close to you and the yard is quiet, you can get a look at it from google earth. It also backs up on the freeway which may be a bit noisy, we like to stay down on that side of the campground, it usually is more quiet as far as the amount of traffic in the campground.

That being said, most times when there are events they stay way down at the end of circle. Most times they are small groups and quiet, and during the week that end of the park is mostly empty.

You say you have dogs, just be careful when walking them near the river in the thick brush, our friends let their dog loose in there and came back with ticks. Other times they were there and stayed around the campsite there were no problems.

Any other things just PM me.
