Crested Butte RV Resort

We're looking to stay in Crested Butte this summer and the Crested Butte RV Resort looks like the only place close.

From their website it appears they have no dump station, but from what I've read, a pumper truck can come out to drain the tanks.

Also, from a satellite view, the place looks like it's in a light commercial area.

The pictures on their website look great, but I'm looking for any advise/reviews/comments from anyone that has stayed there.

Thanks in advance.
  • There is a campground between Gunnision and created butte
called three rivers resort on same hwy. Large cg, big store,
cabins to rent, good cafe, river raft rides (GUIDED)
The rates are reasonable, stayed a week and really enjoyed
    area.
  • Lake Irwin campground is a beautiful campground, though there are no hookups. Gorgeous area though.
  • Crested Butte is now a Yuppie Ski Resort Condo Heaven.

More than worth the trouble to spend a week or so in the Summer. The scenery is beautiful; biking/hiking is great; wildlife is everywhere and the ski zombies are all back in the cities doing whatever it is that they do to afford the condos.

Industry, however, in the classic definition is non-existent.

If you have 4-wheel drive available go through Pitkin and follow the Alpine Pass Road as far as it is open. Be amazed that they once actually built a railroad along that route. Some water tanks and trestles still exist.

Two years ago we tried in late June to get over Ohio Pass from the Crusty Butt end but were blocked by deep snow above the logging cutoff. Had to back down through the slush for about a half mile before I could turn the long bed truck around.

    Have Fun!
  • Yes, we are in a light commercial district.
    "Riverland Industrial Park"

True. You have to enter though this area, but once you are in the campground it is not a factor. We did not find this to be a problem at all, though we did think about it before we stayed there.

Especially nice folks who operate the campground.
  • Got some follow-up info from owner:

We do have a pumper truck that comes for onsite sewer removal. It's a local
septic company & they charge between $30-$45, depending on tank size. They
also require that I have a minimum of 3 rigs to be serviced in order to come
by. It's not always easy, but folks have certainly appreciated the
convenience when it works! Yes, we are in a light commercial district.
"Riverland Industrial Park" is technically what it's called, there are
several wood shops, a plumbing company, a gym, storage, and other businesses
with minimal impact. Crested Butte has such a heavy hand of regulations,
the commercial area is the only place an RV Park would ever be allowed to
operate. It was quite the process getting our approval when we built the
park 3 years ago. We are 2 miles from town, whether on the road or on the
    bike/rec path.
Let me know if you, or anyone else, has anymore questions.

    Sincerely,
    Cari

Sounds great to me & can't wait for our trip!

  • Thanks guys. Sounds like a cool spot.

And we're definitely taking the mountain bikes.
  • We stayed in the Crested Butte Campground last June. We have "camped" in that area for many years, but this is the first time we were able to stay in Crested Butte. Always before we had stayed in Gunnison and only drove up to Crested Butte. This is a new campground and we enjoyed it greatly.

There is no sewer--no dump station. You are right beside the river and have a magnificent view on the western horizon.

For our part, our stay was not long enough to have problems with the holding tanks. We towed back to Gunnison on the way out (downhill all the way) and dumped in an RV park there (yes, there was a charge.)

Have a great time in Crested Butte and the Gunnison area. Try to make a trip up the Taylor River and Spring Creek roads from Almont. If you have time keep going over Cottonwood Pass to Buena Vista over in the Arkansas Valley. Gravel road up to the pass, paved all the way down into Buena Vista.
  • We are doing the same, locking in a trip to Crested Butte.

Internet searching appears to be the best bet in and near Crested Butte.

We have had great feedback from the owner’s, had a couple questions, which they answered & followed up quickly. Drop them an email.

    From their site --

    • We do not have sewer connections or sewer dump on site. Crested Butte RV dump station is 2 miles away.

Have done a non-RV trip to Crested Butte, as active Mtn Biker, it is an incredible town & area. Can’ wait for our RV trip, the campground appear pretty incredible, if you have not seen it; they have a cool video review!
