I think the world has enough trees.. in this country anyway. Let 'em grow, down to the ground if need be, and watch the business go away. Can't have it both ways.

After reading these posts and looking at pics online and talking to the folks at the front office , I have decided to cancel my spot... I agree with NCWriter , there are many parks that are beautiful in Florida... we are going to make other plans...

Thanks to all for your input... BTW.. Spot # 101 ( pet loop ) was reserved from 7/28/15 to 8/1/15 will be available later this morning..

My guess: if they did chop some closest to the roads, the very next day, the next row of trees would have fresh scars.

This discussion reminds me of the Joni Mitchell song called Big Yellow Taxi, about how "they paved paradise and put up a parking lot....took all the trees and put them in a tree museum..."

There are lots of campgrounds in Florida where "modern RVs" of any size won't have a problem.

As others have said, Ft. Desoto is very nice but you will notice all the scares on the tress around some tight turns. I wish they would take some of the tress that are on the corners of tight turns and corners of the sites out. It would do nothing to diminish the beauty of the park but would sure alleviate some issues. We usually stay there once a year and I haven't had much trouble with height, but you have to be VERY careful with the trees going into your site. Several of the sites had a tree right in the middle of the site and you have to go to one side or the other. Also watch out for stumps as the few trees that have been cut, they seem to not cut the stumps down low enough for some rigs.

We always stay in the pet section which (in my opinion) is not as tight as some of the other sections.

The ranger's office is very close to your site. You can walk it and decide if your comfortable. We have stay in that loop. I found the turn to get out to be very tight. Kind of miss our old pop up and sites 7 or 8.

I was just there in April and we stayed in spot 171. Granted our trailer is only 10'6" so I didn't have to worry about hitting anything, but it's still pretty tight going through there.

As far as the cash cow running dry; I think that's part of the problem. They stay full no matter what. If the trees keep out big rigs, they don't care. It's being run by county employees who could care less.

I guarantee you the head of Parks and Recs is buddies with someone on the County Commision who has never driven a 35' fiver thru it.

OP here... I did call and speak to a very nice woman,,,she was unsure of any issues.. But here is why I raised my question--- this is the entrance to the section I am in... Site 101

My last trip there was the final one. The place is seriously over used and neglected. That cash cow may be running dry.
